The Golden Dawn Paradox

The incredible paradox between the founders of the GD and the teachings they delivered is the real key to the mystery.

Since very old times the Rosicrucian Tradition, which the GD is one of its manifestations, tells us of a secretive R+C Order which promotes and monitors all external appearances of R+C teachings. Such accounts are not referring to "ascended" Masters but to a highly advanced group of Adepti whom have surpassed and conquered most of our human limitations, going beyond the grades known. Some Rosicrucians call that group Secret Masters, Secret Chiefs, or the Grand White Brotherhood of Light. Their place of functioning are some times called the Rosicrucian Mansions. However, only those who were in contact with its members really know the truth. But rest assured they are humans like us in their path for the final ascension. They can contact us physically or psychically since they have means to do that.

- Nicholas Roerich (1928) - Shambala Resplandescent - Contact with the Masters of the Great White Brotherhood.
- Raymond Bernard (1970) - AMORC Grand Master for France - He gave us an detailed account of his encounters with the Masters of the Secret Mansions of the Rose-Cross in the Temple of the Spiritum Sactum. In his accounts, he told us a great deal about what the activities of what the GD called the Secret Chiefs. And we have the real question: Who among those currently claim "connection" with the GD Tradition (which actually is the R+C Tradition) are delivering the true current of Hermetic Teachings? How do you know that the material you are reading came from the real source of the esoteric knowledge? That question is intimate related to the distinction between GD organization and GD Tradition.

In my humble point of view, the only highly regarded teachings are those coming from the "Secret Chiefs" because they are the bearers of the Esoteric Tradition, nothing else can be trusted as an actual means of self-development.

Playing in the Shores of Eternity

At some peak point in his fantastic life as Alchemist and Mathematician, Sir Isaac Newton wrote in his memoirs: " I felt like a child playing in the shores of eternity". Probably this remarks were the result of one of his many moments of oneness and perception of the Great Work.

That thought was right on the spot of placing us, the human race, in the perfect perspective when facing the challenge of the Task of the Great Work ahead, our inner mission of self-transformation toward the Cosmic Consciousness.

However, we can go beyond that child astonishment tuning into the flow of Eternity, streaming forth into it, following its call to the Source so we can feel the joy and the overwhelming experience of attuning with the universal ocean of Light that are us and surround us, blending ourselves into the Divine Light, transcending our senses and opening ourselves to the Cosmic Consciousness.

Limits of Eastern & Western Minds

I came to a conclusion that our power is inversely proportional to our limiting beliefs.

A clear application of this conclusion can be found when we compare how different cultures trace their own limiting beliefs, particularly related to the concept of the human mind.

Eastern (Asian) Esoteric Schools seem to believe that the human mind has well defined limits. As some wise said: the mind can help you on the path of illumination but not beyond that! Actually you need to quiet your mind and leave it behind to go beyond the duality.

On the other hand, the Western Hermetic Tradition (European and American), teach us that the human mind is dynamic and able to unfold itself through dimensions of consciousness.

That big difference in approach has one solid foundation, the concept of oneness or no distinction between Consciousness and Mind.

When Eastern Esoteric schools emphasize that distinction, they say that you need to leave the mind behind, or the consciousness needs to take over as separate function or process of the human energy anatomy. That’s why most of their techniques target the control of the mind in a way to put it aside of the process.

But thanks to the hermetic Kabbalah that view was transformed and expanded to include both mind and consciousness in one big process towards illumination.

Ritual Magic associated with the meditation techniques such as raising the planes of consciousness using the Tree of Life as a paradigm opened up to the Westerns an infinite path of ascension towards the unity, or the Path of Return.

This is accomplished by the integration of our Lower Self (Mind) with our Higher Self (Consciousness) in one beautiful process of illumination, living the Universe as a whole as we became.

The Big Picture

Because I am not identifying myself anybody by organization's labels, I see all of us on the Path to find our actual nature and divinity. That's all. I have been on several paths, and all of them have been contributed to my vision of the human development toward their Higher Self. That's what matters. Each one of us is trying to get most of this life to get somewhere, to surpass the limitations we are experiencing in life. Each of us feel the Light at the end of the tunnel. We simply don't know for sure how to get there.

That is why we resource to 'esoteric schools'. In the past those who had an internal realisation were just a few and we need to have a good karma to meet them. Nowadays with the popularisation of the "esoteric" we experience an abundance of 'initiatic schools' claiming that they are able to get you there. But we need to know that is only business for survival of the tradition, which once were only an oral tradition delivered to a few.

The real initiation will happen internally, as like everything else we "experience". Some are able to see the big picture, the majority don't.

Secret Chiefs or The Invisible Rosicrucian Adepts (Magis)

Seems that the Golden Dawn community is having a hard time to believe that the Secret Chiefs are real, or that exist a higher Order of Rosicrucian Adepts overseeing the entire R+C teachings and external manifestations of the Tradition over the Centuries. Also they seem not believing that someone, I mean someone which already have elevated themselves enough to get their attention from the Magi, can actually have met them in flesh.

However, there is at least another person (apart from S.L. Matthers) who had reported just that. His name was Raymond Bernard (1890-1977), an advanced French Rosicrucian Adept with extensive works on the esoteric tradition. He was one of the leading esoteric philosophers and mystics of our time. He was formerly an international leader and Grand Master of the Rosicrucian Order AMORC, and a founder of sacred initiatory and traditional school of mysticism (Rosicrucian, Martinism, Templar) for French-speaking countries. As an Elder Brother and mystic, Frater Raymond has travelled extensively all over the world, to initiate and encourage seekers from every kind of background and denomination to help them find their own personal way of expressing the divine goodness in human nature. His books have been translated in many different languages. However, most of them have now been out of print . In his book "The Secret Mansions of the Rose-Croix", Fr. Raymond tells us of his encounters with the High Adepts and his visit to their Rosicrucian Mansions, the Houses of the Spiritum Sanctum. He mentioned his visits to the secret mansions in Amsterdam, Vienna, Lisbon, and in Madrid. He also mentioned that there are 144 mansions all around the world and that their location may vary according to the world conditions. He said that apart from promoting and monitoring the development and expansion of the Rosicrucian Tradition all over the globe, the Adepts select a few high advanced students to be part of their secretive organization to help them with the Great Work of supporting humanity towards its spiritual unfolding.

Fr. Bernard's work includes plenty of detailed description of the visited locations, his initiations and rituals performed in the houses of the HS, but their exact address and other details must remain hidden from the public.

Reflections on the "Magic" of Harry Potter

I have seen them, all of them, I confess. They are so good! Particularly the last instalment, the Deathly Hallows Part II.

So is the 'magic' of Harry Potter, delivering 'magic' or selling an Hollywood image of a school of wizardry to the masses?

What kind of 'magic' we can see in Harry Potter franchise?

What lies behind it's success, considering the prejudice we face in a society that reputes magic as something related to dark forces or evil? Do you know that here in Australia, some schools refused to allow their students to watch the first movie under the same allegations?

Does do Harry Potter a disservice to the propagation of real Magic in the western society because use the Hollywood formulae to make it work? To resource to well know cliches like the battle of good against evil; to resource to violence in the battle to "evil", to materialise evil so it can be destroyed (!?). They even corrupted the sacred wands converting them into ray-guns! Like they haven't any other purpose than be used for attack/defence... and they seem only to obey their owner like a dog! Not to mention, that those wizards need a parallel world to live, because 'people will be upset if they discover that magic is real' as one of the movie character said.

So what HP and his mates learned in the school of wizardry?

May be they have learnt how to power up their wands (ray-guns and locker-breakers). Or how to confront wanders and get scared. Even how to solve puzzles presented by their masters. But where are the real lessons? May be to persevere no matter what! But what about the inner strength and balance? What about concentration and clear mind? And what about the development of the ability to get inner guidance from the inner Genius (Higher Self)? What about the role of human consciousness into the oneness of the Universe? Some hints on skrying in the pool of dreams? Using the Crystal Ball? Tarot in the school class? A bit of herbology and spells? Above it all they learned how to face the wonders of the Cosmos and survive and learn. Yes, they are all in the movie...

And there is something else... if we recall, the last movie shows that the evil Valdermor's power grew as part of HP growth, inside of him, like his shadow... And that final confrontation with it to survive and evolve. That was advanced!

Even at the end, after HP have conquered the evil Valdermor (his own Demon?) but he didn't get the place of his master (the dead Wizard), why I wonder...

Anyway, the presence of Magic in our world will be imprinted in the mind of the young... may some of them will want to get further on that, like what happens to myself.

Today I understand Magic as an a Path of a few, those who are willing to tread the hidden ways of the mind and the Universe.

This reminds me Plato, when he said that if you know thyself you know the Universe, which immediately reflects the maximum of Hermes Trimegistus in As Above as Below, the works of the One.

As defined by the Golden Dawn tradition, Magic is way to walk on the Path of Return, to your own Divinity manifested, thus being more than Human, being One with the All. That is my definition of Magic as well. Early in my life I realised that I was treading the Path of Light, which do not have a way back, only forward! Because? Because this is a transformative path, it is a transmutation path, and there is nothing behind where you can go back.

I have this kind of fascination by the Divine Light that propel "myself", my middle self (ego) towards the unknown to fulfil my destiny, which I do not know yet to come. But it is irresistible and I am put myself totally into it, body and soul. That's my call.

What I rationally do is trying to figure out my way toward that goal. I believe that there are clues left behind by those who already tread this Path. I want to heal myself enough to see them on my path and follow them. One of the big clues resides in the concept of the Higher Self or Genius. That's in my option is the first real step in this Path. I can see it in the GD system, better than in the other schools. Because this is a real unknown territory we need a true guide. Our minds are too limited to figure out those clues, which requires higher learning and perceptive skills. Those clues are out of time and space, a real cosmic riddle put before ourselves as the critical test of endurance and worth. We need to be conscious outside the limited mind frame, conditioned by the linear language and thought flow.

Reflections on the Path of Knowledge

A Frater, friend of mine, wrote: "My aim is to do my inner work to get in contact with the Cosmic Mind, doing things related to my spiritual development."

When I asked for clarification, he also explained: "What I did was to funnel (select) my sources from where I can seek knowledge instead of open myself to a wide range of sources as you do."

As my friend is a serious seeker of the Great Work, I started to consider his thoughts.

I think he got a point in saying that we need focus, as concentration is the main tool in the Rosicrucian Path of self-development. However, I think the main point is not the focus, but the contact with the Cosmic Mind, that is the real issue of his preoccupations. He thinks that through psychic exercises provided by the AMORC system of teachings the "contact" can be achieved. He also mentioned that he has a very disciplined routine of meditation and practices to achieve his goal of contact with the Cosmic Mind. During our conversation he mentioned that he is pretty happy with his results and that he considered himself enlightened somehow already.

Then I was considering to myself: We live in a reality of possibilities and opportunities and these only become concrete, real for us, when we choose among so many endless options given to us by the Cosmic Mind.

Besides, if we think a little beyond the distinction of 'inner' and 'out', and if we consider the Rosicrucian dito which said that ALL IS MIND, that is all we perceive and think is part of the Cosmic Mind, so what aspect of our life that is not related to our spiritual development? Is it possible that there is something that is not part of It?

My conclusion is that my enlightened Frater put himself apart from the Cosmic Mind when he thinks in terms of duality. What he must realized is that it all part of the show, we are never out of it. That he needs to seek not the Cosmic Mind but the Cosmic Consciousness, which is our perception of the whole, the continuum of energy and consciousness "between everything" that we perceived as individual things and beings. Those aspects that we consider 'outer' that make it difficult for us to contact the Cosmic Mind. That's why we need to overcome the Abyss between the dualistic perception and that of Cosmic Unity.

That's why we need to travel from our concept of 'out' to 'oneness' pushing the limits between the concepts of "exterior" and "interior". We can only established contact with the cosmic mind, when we become conscious of being part of it.

Fulcanelli and the Secret of Alchemy

Louis Pauwels, in his book "The Morning of the Magicians", Chapter III, 1960, quotes the alleged encounter between the co-author of this book, Jacques Bergier and Fulcanelli (the Alchemist) himself:

(Fulcanelli said to Bergier:) "The secret of alchemy is this: there is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. This field acts on the observer and put him in a privilege position vis-a-vis the Universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call 'The Great Work'."

Interesting is that I have read this book several times and I didn't notice that quote and its powerful implications.

Thinking about that, what Fulcanelli is talking about is the Sphere of Sensation or our Aura, which he called 'The Field'. That's our energy field, which enveloping our bodies, acts as a protective shield against the various environments (physical and non-physical ones), but if it was powered by special exercises (concentration and pranayamas) it may became something else entirely.

As the Golden Dawn teachings state, the Sphere of Sensation is our mirror of the Universe (in all its dimensions), so as Fulcanelli suggests, it can also act as a interface between our consciousness and the entire sea of energy which constitute the Universe (including us).

The statement above also made me recall the experiences of Carlos Castaneda with his tutor, Don Juan. Don Juan was able to shift Carlos's consciousness and the physical state of his body to be able to interact with other dimensions by pressing certain points of his energetic field, or moving his "assemblage point" (aspect not yet explored in the occult circles).

Of course Fulcanelli knew that he was talking with a profane, not with an initiate in the Arts, so he greatly simplified the meaning of the Great Work. The access to higher dimensions allows the initiate to learn by direct experience with the Universe, but the real Great Work comes from the transmutation of the subject themselves, not only their perception of the Cosmos.

Invisibility According to Practices of the Golden Dawn & AMORC

A lot of controversial discussions are going on in the Rosicrucian and Golden Dawn fora about the subject of Invisibility.

May be the subject is new for the GD community, but it is not for the Rosicrucians. Since the first R+C manifesto in 1622, when the "invisible brotherhood" place their placards all over Paris, the subject of invisibility is on the table.

I am also noticing that there is some kind of difference in terms of approach to the practice of the Art. Let's take an example comparison between AMORC and GD. We may noticed that the GD teachings favours Ritual practice while AMORC approach the subject from the experimental point of view. In that sense, with GD rituals the mechanics of the phenomenon are hidden, while the AMORC 'experiment' favours the process by which the phenomenon takes place. May be that's the reason why the Invisibility hasn't gained much credit among GD magicians...

Taking the Invisibility practice, what GD offers is a ritual invocation pleading the god of appearances to hide the subject. The practitioner didn't know how it happens, hopping that the invoked god will take care of the process, while with AMORC teachings the practitioner learns what forces are involved and how to control them to achieve the desired goal. That method also has an advantage of improving the practitioner concentration skills and the ability to control the cosmic energy by the power of will. The consequences of the different approaches are obvious in relation to the psychic development of the practitioner.

For details about this exercise, from the AMORC point of view, refer to the book "Steve Richards - Invisibility" (it is available from the internet). The author quote the entire sections of the AMORC's 9th Temple degree on the Invisibility exercise, called the "Cloud of Invisibility".

Reviewing the exercise, you may noticed that it starts by the practitioner creating a cloud of pure energy by sheer concentration of the mind. Then they need to tune their skills to control the created cloud turning it into a spiral of energy. That is the real starting point for further experimentations/manifestations. At that point the practitioner have an incredible experience of the birth of the Universe. Only after several manipulations of that cloud/spiral of cosmic energy the practitioner is able to use its effects.

I would like to point out that Invisibility is a subproduct of that exercise. The real deal is about the practitioner to be able to develop their power of concentration manifesting matter from energy as well as creating a Portal do Higher Dimensions.

Can I have "inner" experiences or "initiations" just reading AMORC Master Monographs or Golden Dawn grade study material?

Today I received an email posing a question if we can have "inner" initiations just reading monographs. Then I sent the following answer:

Are you affiliated to a mystical or magical school/order?

a) If not you know that is possible to have a mystical/magical life by your own, taking lessons from others and applying to yourself.

b) If you are a student of any order or esoteric school and you are not leaving close to a temple, you also need to work by your own.

Either way, "inner" means YOURS. Nobody can give you "inner" experiences apart from yourself. What they do (the Masters, Gurus, instructors) is to show you the common way to do it. That's all. The "doing" is up to you, to the student.

AMORC is not as advanced in terms of Western Esoterism as the Golden Dawn, but it has a huge infra-structure to support their students. Every small city in the world has an AMORC lodge or temple where the student can get lesson reviews, forums, support lectures, and initiations. But the essential come from the Master Monographs, which supplies the core elements for learning the theoretical aspects of the work as well as the guidelines to perform your home rituals. The lessons also provide a comprehensive set of exercises and practices to help the student to develop their own inner life and progress.

But if you look at the Golden Dawn schools (orders) they do exactly the same, even though the contents are more advanced. What they do is to hand over all the grade material to you when you are admitted to a grade and them you need to workout your curriculum by yourself.

Even the 'initiation ceremonies' do not guarantee that you will have an 'inner' initiation. That depends exclusively of your Higher Self. That's the part of your being that manage this area allowing to you what you can handle and what you need to develop yourself further. Nobody else can do it but you. Is your Path to have or not 'inner' experiences. Also depends in great deal of your exposure to such matters and if you are willing and open to receive them. That's what really matters. Not monographs or luxurious temple ceremonies. All of that is external. Is the task of your Higher Self to show you that He is the actual Self and your are a mere external and workable projection of it, which allow Him to work in the physical plane. At the highest level your lower self will be incorporated into the Higher Self and them you will live as a complete being aware of the Cosmic consciousness.

Conclusion, you can we have inner experiences with or without monographs. A lot of people either do.

Glowing Wand - During my ritual today I experience something very interesting. As I was performing my LBRP/LBRH and i noticed that my wand of Double Power was glowing with pure Light emananting an aura of rays in it's extremity leaving a definite mark on the Astral level as I performed the ritual movements. Fascinating, that's real Magic in action!

Middle Pillar Experience - After doing the MPR I felt compelled to concentrate in the middle column of Light, which connects my Kether to my Adoni Ha Aretz spheres. As I was in deep inner Silence at that time the concentration was intense and I started to feel merging myself with the column of Light. As I did I experienced a expansion of consciousness and a wonderful feeling to part of the Divine Light! Was a incredible experience that lasted to several minutes.

Vortex of Light - In that part of the ritual that we need to create a Vortex of Light down to our central altar, I really see with my inner eye it happening. A huge column of Light coming from above directly over the cubic Altar. The vibrations of my home temple changed dramatically.

Presence of spiritual Beings of Light in the ceremony - When we are commanded to visualize all the hierarchies present in the convocation I also perceived the central column of Light expanding engulfing my entire home temple and among the Light all invoked Beings.

A Personal Account

I must confess that my experience with AMORC at my first years was fantastic! Everything was new in my twenties and I learned to love my Master Monographs (at that time simply called Rosicrucian Monographs). Every week I was waiting with anticipation for the new revelation of the Laws of Nature and how can I be in synch with the Cosmos, the infinite Mind, in everything!

Off course, this entire process speeds up my mind in search for the realms beyond my mundane experience and I loved it with all my soul. But after the 9 Degree Temple I felt a jolt in my comfort zone. I realized that I should rich something, some level of consciousness, which I had pick experiences about it, but nothing permanent as I expected. The Cosmic Consciousness was still a flitting experience. Most of the “exercises” given in the 9T were totally different from the rest of the previous study and the Order didn’t give enough information about their purpose or even their usage. Seems they want, deliberately, to hide the whole thing and show us just the tip of the iceberg leaving us without a clue of what to do with all those tools. That was the first blow. It shakes my confidence in the school and put myself as an observer, less involved with the ‘climate’ of the Order.

Then after these five years, I entered in some kind of new phase of studies. The volume of material supplied for the 10T, 11T and 12T degrees were overwhelming. It took me 20 years of my life to complete the “Higher Degrees”. Definitely, that was a time to evaluate was is going on! What I got and what I have achieved? First of all, one thing I noticed from some time in this level: 90% of the content supplied in the monographs was a total waste of time and were fabricated to extend my membership ad infinitum only. There was no use whatsoever. I noticed that because I have a very accurate track of my monographs and its relevant contents and I have submitted that “index” to several reviews all long those years. I want to make sense of the puzzle scheme of my studies. But all in vain… I really get down to a conclusion that the material was collated without any alchemical or magical framework, just for the sake of keep the student amused with so many things… and the Mystery.

Because I didn't wanted to take this personally, I cared to talk with other "High Degree" members, share my conclusions and listen their opinions. The majority totally agree with me saying that is the reason they are totally demotivated with their studies and do not want to get involved with the organization anymore.

The bottom line was that AMORC worked just a little bit over the exercises and experiments done on the ‘Lower Degrees’ and particularly on the 9T recommending to repeat them once and while and combining them differently. Some brief reference to the Elementals like Fire and Water, reference to clairvoyance using water as a replacement for a crystal ball, etc.. But the lack of a clear guideline in this entire section called Illuminati was blatant. The real focus of the entire exercise was place into was called “Hierarchy Contacts”, a experiment based on HSL work creating an Astral construct of a “Cathedral of Souls” were all members should commune to receive guidance and psychic healing. “Meetings” on the “Cathedral of Souls” are scheduled regularly with specific sessions for different purposes. Members of this section also receive special orientation to report to the Supreme Grand Loja if they “receive” messages or visions related to the organization. This is considered a special service to the Imperator. All the remaining information delivered in the monographs can be easily found in any bookshop, which as I say, amount around 90% of the Illuminati section. There is only one other thing that I noticed that really pissed me off. At certain point of the studies, the monographs started to talk like the “Illumination” is about to happen at any time soon in the student, until they drop the subject entirely focusing in totally different things. I had a close friend of mine, a bit more advanced in monographs than I, that at the end of this process suffered a nervous breakdown, which he never recovered completely.

Looking Around in this Blog

I started this blog somewhat in hope that someone in the AMORC high echelons or the High Council (or should I say board of directors in the new business model?) would reflect on my clues and change the direction the organization is heading. I called out for hints in the timeline where HSL was elaborating his plan to develop AMORC even further. If you look at this blog index (at the right side) you will find many interesting advances from HSL to expose AMORC students to the Western Esoteric arts.

What All of that Tell Us?

We found that HSL as a publicist found many ways to promote his idea of an organization dedicated to de study and development of psychic abilities, such as Telepathy, Psychometrics, Clairvoyance, Astral Projection as well some of the mind powerful abilities such as Creative Visualization, Memory Enhancements, Subconscious Programming, etc.. Off course, in those areas HSL was up-to-date with the most recent advancements rivaling Silva Mind Control™. HSL also resourced to the wonder of the mysterious East and old Rosicrucian Tradition to create a seductive image for his new organization, AMORC.

Exactly when I was meditating on that, that the entire picture came like a revelation! I was contemplating AMORC history and their study materials (the monographs), when every part of the puzzle seems to felt into place. Them I came to a realization that the HSL stories like his ‘initiation’ in a Rosicrucian temple of the continental initiates in France in some unknown chateau, the alleged CR+C vault found in the Pacific coast, the possession of old Rosicrucian manuscripts that he “translated” and all this stuff never happened. That kind of arguments was easy to use in the beginning of the 19th Century, where people do not have access to document sources and travel was difficult. But today in the world of Internet, they cannot stand anymore. The public information level has been raised to such level that façade like that is not working anymore. But removing the smoking screen, we can see what HSL was heading to. What he really wanted was to expand his psychic researches, started years before the AMORC concept came into life. The Order was actually part of his strategy to extend his researches to a grand scale, including almost the entire world. He also wants to adventure in the realms of the mind in a totally different experiment. He wants people willing to participate, seduced by his offer, to promote better results. That formula was AMORC. A psychic experiment vested in the robes of an ancient Rosicrucian Order, with root in the wisdom of the ancient Egypt! That was really great! A Master Plan.

The Master Plan

It is obviously that there was a plan, or a plan that unfolds as it went. The first stage was to create the nucleus, done by a direct “Master”-disciple relationship, between HSL and his first students. The first ‘teachings’ were transmitted in a temple-lodge setting in a Masonic quasi-c style. After some build up and publicity, he decided to create a 5 year course, structured in 9 ‘degrees’. He borrows the grade terminology from the rising Golden Dawn, to use the momentum, and launched himself into it. In 9 years the first team of ‘initiates’ was ready and the organization need to feed them with something new to keep them going.

That was the rising of the second stage of the Master Plan, the creation of some kind of Inner Order, or High Degrees. The 10th, 11th and 12th Degree were created and delivered. But this time the plan was conceived to fix the small amount of time to keep the students paying their fees. The degrees need to be extended enough to not require any other level any time soon, giving the organization time to breath. Thus the 10th degree was designed to include 250 monographs approximately; the 11th degree to include approximately the same number and the 12th with around 350 monographs! Considering receiving a pack of four monographs a month, it would take 212 months or 17 years to complete the new stage. That time enough!

But people are persistent and they got there as well. And now? It is the time for the crown of the Master Plan. Recently AMORC devised a new level of monographs (their source seems bottomless), The Planes or also called the Ordo Summun Bonvn. The actual number of monographs is unknown but they also changed the entire system of monograph delivery. Now the new and old members are receiving only a pack of 2 monographs per month, which will double the time spam for the entire system, requiring the new student their entire life span of affiliation do get the same thing. Now AMORC also have guarantee of a life-time fees from its members. That was sad but a real smart marketing move!

Conclusions

In the overall picture, despite the Master Plan, AMORC did a significant contribution to the acceptance of the energetic side of the human nature, as well as the methods to manage our mental powers. Their system also demonstrate that with persistence, common individual are able to incorporate into their daily routine exercises and practices to expand their consciousness without relaying in any guru or eastern techniques. Also prove, beyond the shadow of doubt that there is an interest in the metaphysical side of men and things. That people are seeking beyond the appearances and they are willing to sacrifice significant parte of their lives to achieve Enlightenment. That’s the best part of it. Should AMORC turn to its good side, incorporating the authentic Rosicrucian Tradition (Theurgy, Astrology and Alchemy - the arcane sciences) there is much that it can be done with such infrastructure around the world. It up to them to see what they really can do for humanity.

AMORC in the 50's was referring students to the Golden Dawn?

Reviewing the monographs I have received in the 70's (in Portuguese) I found a paragraph written by HSL (probably in the 40's since the Portuguese translation in the 50's have not been updated) that, in my point of view, he is referring AMORC "advanced" students to seek further advancement in the Order of the Golden Dawn. The referral is located in the 11 Temple Degree, Mon. 9, from page 1 to 2. It is contained in the heading entitled "Alchemical Symbolism"; this session talks about the Dark Night of the Soul. It is the third paragraph in that section.

Text in Portuguese published by the Grand Lodge of Brazil (70's)

"Segundo alguns escritos misticos, parece que houve toda uma organizacao conhecida como a Ordem do Aureo Alvorecer, as vezes citada por suas iniciais. Supoe-se que isto seja referencia ao mais alto desenvolvimento na fraternidade Rosacruz. (...) e' muitas vezes dito que somente os Membros da Ordem ou Fraternidade do Aureo Alvorecer conhecem o verdadeiro trabalho dos Rosacruzes. Alem disso, alguns escritos declaram que a verdadeira fraternidade dos Rosacruzes so' poderia ser encontrada nessa Ordem do Aureo Alvorecer."

My translation back to English

"According to some mystical writings, it seems there was an entire organization known as the Order of the Golden Dawn, as often quoted by his initials. It is assumed that this reference is the highest development in the Rosicrucian brotherhood. (...) and often said that only Members of the Order or Fraternity of the Golden Dawn know the real work of the Rosicrucians. Moreover, some writings declare that the true brotherhood of Rosicrucians could only be found in this Order of the Golden Dawn."

I too would have received this monograph in the 70's.

However, comparing that text in more recent monographs, related to the same degree, I noticed that the contents has been changed and the references to the "Order of the Golden Dawn" or its initials "G.D." have been removed.

Different points of view

Some fraters that replayed my posts seemed surprised or others a bit ungry about such referral, saying that HLS would never say something like that because he believes that AMORC was the TRUE Rosicrucian Order. Others said that the referral was a "misinterpretation" since the lesson talks about the Dark Night of the Soul and the "Golden Dawn" is not another order, but a state of being after the DNS, the illumination.

Frater André Klynstra (rosaecrucius@gmail.com) replayed:

"I don't believe for a second that HSL was referring to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (1888 - 1903) when he was talking about Golden Dawn or that he recommended that Order to AMORC members, which b.t.w. was already dissolved when he wrote this monograph. He was totally convinced that AMORC was the only and true R.C. Order."

My answers

I wouldn't be so sure about what HSL believed. Actually he seemed to be very open mind about related mystery schools as you can see from his diverse affiliations through the F.U.D.O.S.I. and others. He also published his O.T.O. certificate in the Rosicrucian manual.

Also the original H.O.G.D. & A.O. didn't die in 1903, it continued to have active temples until the 40's and even later in New Zealand until 70's. Not to mention other less known temples in Russia, Austria, German, Switzerland, etc which had Adepts who helped to re-started new G.D. wave of modern temples. So the G.D. was very much alive when HLS wrote those teachings in our monographs. He knew that other mystery schools were more advanced than AMORC, and that AMORC was not the ONLY TRUE Rosicrucian order. Have a look at your 10T, 11T and 12T degree's Aditums and Initiations. That is were HLS introduced initiations and teachings from various mystery schools, like doors for the advanced student.

Do you mind to check again if your monographs have any match with the referred section above? Could you pass to me the original English text for this paragraph?

My hypothesis

Let's consider the time HSL wrote that monograph. May be he was very conscious that AMORC was not designed to supply its students with the level of mystical and magical knowledge offered by the G.D. The AMORC history tells us his involvement with the F.U.D.O.S.I. at that time, his close contact with so many other Rosicrucian societies/schools, and the immediate effect of the Golden Dawn teachings had in the Western Esoteric groups. He may be tough of a possibility of further collaboration between the schools (AMORC and HOGD/AO) as we can observe in other movements, such as the Martinism which adopted the Kabalistic Order of the Rosicross as its 4th degree since that school showed advanced studies in Cabala, topic related to the Martinist studies.

In my opinion, after more than 40 years of AMORC studies, is that HSL didn't use "Order" as a replacement for a state of being. He did not mistake the mentioned initials of the "G.D.". He knew very well about the HOGD. I have confirmation from other jurisdiction, like the Portuguese and Canadian (French), that this is the exactly text of the monographs. What is happening is that after the 70's AMORC has been removing progressively those references in the new revisions, may be because is an embarrassment to the actual administration who have a very different vision. Nowadays AMORC see other similar mystery schools as competitors for world audience, not as partners in the Great Work.

May be HSL had other vision for AMORC...

I would float the suggestion that starting in 1937 that one no longer needed to seek entry into the Golden Dawn to study the material of the Golden Dawn, thanks to the fact the Regardie started to publish the material of the Order. I would be surprised if HSL did not own a complete set of the Regardie volumes.

Now, is that a reasonbable assumption or am I overlooking something?

My answer plus some after thoughts:

Hypotesis One: As you may know, reading Regardie (what I am sure HSL did it) is really not enough to achieve the G.D. highest purpose, or to contact your HGA (or Higher Self), and in my opinion that's was also the main objective of HSL higher teachings passed on the AMORC higher degrees. HSL mindset was targeting a full guidance in such delicate path of self-realization and I am sure he will not relay on published literature, which btw doesn't cover the R.R.et A.C. in full, since Regardie only reach the 5=6 Adeptus Minor grade (in the Stella Matutina, not in the HOGD/AO).

Because in that monograph HSL was talking about the Dark Night of the Soul and the following state of Illumination or the golden dawn, he knew that was necessary for the student to engage themselves in a full Order study to achieve that further state of realization, which such course of study AMORC wasn't fully prepared to support.

To support my conclusion, just compare the AMORC and the HOGD/AO curriculum and you will agree with me.

Hipothesis Two: (Which may work in conjuntion with Hipostesis One) HSL may also new that an organized HOGD/AO wasn't existing anymore at that time (1940-50), that is why he said that no visible Order can be found. However, he also knew that the Order initiated several Adepts and that they were arround and the possibility of study with one of them on a one-to-one (Master - Disciple) basis still was a possibility, and that's why he included the referred clue in the monongraphs. May be he was not actually "referring" his students to the Golden Dawn, but only point out another possibility of mystical/magical development for those who dare.

Can AMORC have a college of Adepti?

I had a vision that I would like to share with my Fratres and Sorors regarding the higher degrees of AMORC.

Doing my Sanctum work for the Esoteric Hierarchy, I was asking guidance for the development of the Rosicrucian Tradition, And I had a vision of a college of Rosicrucian Adepts made by high degree members who are willing to go further and actively willing to contribute to the mystical development of human kind and the Rosicrucian Tradition. In that college our members were using our basic teachings designing and advancing further the frontier of our mystical knowledge using all the fields and tools provide by the Ancient Sciences. The effect of this work in our planet became visible as an immense aura of White Light started to involve our planet purifying and elevating its environment. That new activity became the central focus for human transformation and acceleration of the vibrational tonus of your Earth.

After those unforgettable moments I started to reflect on how such a vision can be manifested for betterment of humankind. Below I describe some of the ideas as they come up.

Considering the high degrees that a member could attain during their studies and practices within the AMORC course of studies, what are the advantages of having a College of the Adepti?

What was the purpose of the "College of the Adepti" in the past/present/future?

As we know from renowned esoteric authors, a "College of the Adepti" is defined as a group of high initiated students who dedicated themselves to the advancement of the Occult Sciences or the Rosicrucian Tradition. They take the material they received by their mystery schools and get them further by advanced experimentations and occult research aiming to gather ever higher knowledge and wisdom to be incorporated into the R+C Tradition.

What are the Adepti's fields of development?
- Hermeticism
- Spiritual Alchemy
- Esoteric Astrology (Horary Astrology, etc.)
- Divination (Geomancy, Tarot, etc)

What are the Adepti's Tools?
- Concentration
- Contemplation
- Visualisation
- Mediation
- Psychic Vision
- Vibroturgy (psychometry)
- Psychic Projection
- Arcane Symbology
- Words of power (Vocalic sounds, mantras, divine names)
- Consciousness rising techniques
- Assumption (psychic and divine)

Does AMORC has some equivalent to the "College of the Adepti"?

There are some basic activities within the AMORC affiliation that in part resembles to activities pertaining to a "College of the Adepti":
- The Esoteric Hierarchy
- The Order Summun Bonvm
- The Artisan fora

However, those activities and affiliations remain limited to the scope defined for them.
- The Esoteric Hierarchy - Its purpose is not clearly defined as it exists as an aid to the Imperator. The E.H. member only needs to pass their reports to the Imperator when they have any psychic impressions related to the work or activities of the organization.
- The Order Summun Bonvm - Recently created, this esoteric body comprises members of the high degrees, and they commitment with the organization is the same as required by the students of the lower degrees. These commitments are dedication to their studies and practices and self-development.
- The Artisan classes or fora - Also recently created, that activity is aimed to higher degree members as a forum of debate around "relevant" subjects to the class.

Are the AMORC members of these esoteric bodies/classes happy with the advancements offered by the organization, at that level?
According to my experience, they are not. From many years of participation in Lodge activities and AMORC activities over the world FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS, I notice that we always have the impression that was hard to attract higher degree members to the activities. I can summarise below the reason for that behaviour:

a) Most of the higher degree members lose their connection with the Order after while and when asked why, they say that are finding their answers elsewhere.
b) Some demonstrated their frustration for the lack of activities to propel them further exploring the jewels of knowledge, only briefly shown to then, in the higher degrees, but not developed as deeper as they expected.
c) They also feel that is their responsibility to develop even further the R+C Tradition, but they do not have means and an environment/structure to do so.

The observer effect. High Magic is all about the role of consciousness in the Universe. Have you tried the Candle Flame contemplation experiement with a twist? If you do, you can be witness of your Inner Self (contacting the inner SILENCE). Being conscious aware of the mind activity. Try a simple experiment:

1. Place a lighted candle in a small table in front of you, as you sit, make the flame at the hight of your eyes.
2. Let your breath be calm and relaxed while contemplating the flame.
3. Start to become aware of your eyes as they allow the flame to be seem. Do it until you fill the eyes like windows through which the flame is perceived.
4. Feel even deeper and become aware that it is a perception of being aware of the eyes perceiving the flame.
5. Turn now the focus of your concentration even deeper and feel what is witnessing the perception of the eyes, which is registering the flame. Feel that what is witnessing is the Consciousness and it is the SILENCE of the Presence within, nothing else.

This is a life changing experience, which is in tune with the objectives of High Magic.

What's High Magic?

What is called Magic or High Magic is what our technology is starting to discover, the Quantum field and the Holographic Universe. Is in that context that the High Magic occurs. The Hermetic Rose-Cross (AMORC vs GD)

In the AMORC’s official magazine published by the Grand Lodge for Portuguese language in Brazil, there is another clue that links AMORC origins with the Golden Dawn symbols and materials is the Hermetic Rose-Cross lamen. It is in a section that usually explains the front cover illustration, it says: (translated from Portuguese) “The complex symbol which is used to be the cover of this publication is known as the ‘Hermetic Rose-Cross’, and was created around 1887 by Samuel L Matters, and composed from ancient symbols from the ‘Secret Symbols of the Rosacrucians from XVI and XVII Centuries’. The symbol created by Matters includes two rose-crosses interlaced, in addition of elements related to Alchemy and Kabalah.”

It is important to mention, that even though AMORC does not explorer the symbology of the lamen into their teachings, it has being used as Master and Grand Master pendant since the Order’s inception. In the case of Golden Dawn, it is given by the Order to the new Adept to be worn during ritual convocations and special ceremonies. For the Golden Dawn it is the mark of the Adept.

According to the AMORC’s official magazine published by the Grand Lodge for Portuguese language in Brazil, in a section entitled “Master Kut-Hu-Mi and the Rosicrucian Convention of 1926”, is says: “H. Spencer Lewis published in the years of 1926, in the official AMORC American magazine, ‘The Mystic Triangle’, an article entitled ‘Our Trip Through Europe’, a fascinating account (in several chapters) about a certain secret International Convention held by the ‘Rosicrucian Order Worldwide’ happed in that year, in Toulouse, France. . There is a portion of the article that talks about of the participation of Master Kut-Hu-Mi in the Convention, which as a Supreme R+C Master, not only spoken about to the high initiates, all delegates of the Order, but also had private meetings with the AMORC officials, among them with H. Spenser Lewis. According to the AMORC Imperator statements, Master K.H.M. was alive at that time and living in Tibet. Currently the Master is operating in the Cosmic Plan at the service of the R+C.”

Have you ever herd of publication done by Harvey Spencer Lewis entitled "Light of Egypt", published in 1927, page 8, in which he published an unprecedented revelation regarding the source of his Rosicrucian teaching. He says: "(…) when the earliest European explorers were wending their way to the Pacific Coast, hunting for the 'land of gold' (...) the Rosicrucian Fraternity sent seven of its highest initiates to the West on a secret mission. They accompanied one of the early Spanish exploration expeditions and carried with them many caskets of rarer devices, papers, jewels and a sealed sarcophagus. These things finally found a resting and hiding place on a small peninsular jutting into the Pacific, which is a mountainous part of the ancient continent of Lemuria (...). In this quiet and peaceful place on the Pacific shore, a crude temple was built of adobe, adjoining a cave described on the maps they possessed. In the cave the sarcophagus, jewels and documents were placed, and the entrance closed to form a tomb and a vault (...) It was to this cave and the ruined temple that Dr. Lewis journeyed in 1918, performed the rituals and rites, followed the formulas, and brought to light the well-preserved 'body' of C.R.C. again (...) Dr. Lewis quietly returned to New York and prepared the translation of the documents he brought back with him (sic), and in other ways arranged for the celebration of the Revelation at the Great Convention, which was held at New York in the summer of 1918."

Any of you got the chance to talk who someone who was attending that Great Convention in NY, 1918?

That event is so IMPORTANT for the history of the Rosicrucian Tradition that I really surprised that I never heard of it before. Can anyone add anything to that to clarify? May be the Supreme Grand Lodge of AMORC? Why that so important event doesn't appear in any other AMORC publication? Or mentioned in our studies?

Relevant Qustions to Ask:

1. Who are the "Rosicrucian Fraternity" that HSL was talking about? The Gold und Rosencreutz Order from Germany, the same originator of the Golden Dawn teachings?

2. Are the "the sarcophagus, jewels and documents" in possetion of AMORC's Archives/Museum? Is there any evidence of that?

3. And about "the translation of the documents he brought back"? What was the original language that those documents were written? How HSL "translate" them?

4. As the AMORC teachings differs so much from the original Rosicrucian Tradition that comes from the Gold und Rosencreutz Order of Germany, so I am wandering of which "RC+C vault" was "opened"? What is the actual R+C tradition that AMORC was based? Seems that is not the same that gave origin to the Golden Dawn system, which emphasises Alchemy (Hermetic), Magic (Theurgy) and Astrology (Divination). As the AMORC's lower grades (from Neophyte to the 8T) stress the psychic development techniques and the higher grades (from the 9T to 13T) continues the trend adding brief references to subjects related to the Golden Dawn system (like Alchemy briefings, basic divination techniques using crystal ball and water, some reference to the influence of cardinal points, the moon and planets to some psychic exercises, some references to influence of the physical Elements (Water, Fire, Earth and Air) for the exercises as well. But nothing towards Practical Magic as taught by GD. May be the only common goal is the Cosmic Atunement with the Higher Self, which as kept by HS - but done through psychic development not by High Magic. Both seeks the contact with the Hierarchy of Masters, Secret Chiefs, or with the Invisible Rose Cross Order (different denomination for the same organization). That is exactly the subject of my Master thesis for the University of Metaphysics International of Sedona this year.

My Vision of the Golden Dawn Effect in the World

I was walking back home, from my job, when I have an epiphany, a VISION, of humankind awakening their Higher Senses and faculties allowing us to perceive directly the energetic matrix of the Universe.

What was leading to that was the work done by the Hermetic Sciences, through schools like the Golden Dawn. The GD Kabbalist approach is helpping to integrate the analytical and mystical views of modern humankind.

Using techniques such as skrying we are able to tap into the hidden knowledge of the Universal Mind and have the guidance to apply that knowledge and wisdom to perfect our lives. As a result of the psychic development trigged by the use of skrying and other exercises we will be able to see, feel and understand the energy patterns of the universal energy matrix, their interactions and relationships between every living thing and ALL things, across all planes of manifestation.

Such achievement will result in a new way of life, consciousness and responsible life, wisdom, prosperity and abundance for ALL.

That's my vision of the contribution of the Golden Dawn system to the world.

Guidance from Higher Planes of Consciousness

AMORC Higher Degrees teach their students various techniques to draw guidance from the higher planes, "Higher Intelligences" or "Invisible Masters" of the Order.

Various Clairvoyance techniques were employed to that aim, such as using a crystal ball, a candle flame, and the water surface reflection.

However, those techniques to gather wisdom from higher planes rich their rosicrucian climax with following Golden Dawn techniques to explore those planes:

a) Skrying in the Spirit Vision (a form of Remote Viewing)

b) Travelling in the Spirit Vision (Astral Travel)

c) Rising on the Planes (Astral body ascends through the various levels of the Tree of Life)

Therefore, as expected using the Golden Dawn Ritual Magic framework, we can go even further into the psychic realm interacting with Angels, Elementals, and other beings from those realms asking them for guidance and knowledge about the higher realities in the Path of Light.

All this is possible because of the underlying metaphysical principle to which skrying is based. The hermetic adagio "As above, so below!". It affirms that what our minds can access in the higher realms is actually part of the Cosmic Mind, the All encompassing Oneness of the Lord of the Universe, the Mind-God in us, our Higher-Self, our Guardian Angel. So when we are skrying we are actually attuning our minds with the Mind of the One and tapping on His wisdom that can be accessed by our consciousness.

Hermetic Alchemy & Immortality

For the attempted reader the message from the HOGD Third Order has been present for a long time. Reading some passages from Paul Foster Case's "Hermetic Alchemy" some interesting points come up.

Swami Vivekananda, for instance, tells us about a spiritual school in India called Rasyanas, which are well versed in Hermetic thought, particularly on the "So above, it is below". They believe that we had the power to tap in the infinite source of Light to attain physical immortality while we can complete the Great Work.

Also, in 1879, Dr. William A. P. Martin, a missionary in China, tells us that Alchemy were known and practiced in China at least 300 years BC.

According to Paul Foster Case, Alchemy "is the science of the hidden essence, which is veiled by solar energy." It is an Osirian Art to control the hidden powers and occult forces concealed beneath the physical appearances.

Some points worth to highlight:

1. We exist, we live, in an ocean of spiritual Light and our mind can tap into that unlimited source at will.

2. That creative spiritual Light is concentrated in our Solar body.

3. Hermetic Alchemy is a science related to the Solar Energy and its power of transformation.

4. Our minds have the power to build our bodies at each incarnation on this physical plane, so we have the inner power to rebuild it at will until we can attain enlightment.

5. Preparing our bodies using the spiritual solar energy (using the techniques of Hermetic Alchemy) we can attain immortality, at least until it matters...

The Power of the Magic Circle

Continuing my research to gain more insight into the context which Hermeticism developed in the West, I was compelled to read Michael Baigent & Richard Leigh's "The Elixir and the Stone", 1997, page 335. The title is very intriguing and suggestive. The book is a very comprehensive view of influence of the Hermetic thought in the Western culture. However, I stopped in my tracks when I read the following bold statement:

"Metaphorically and often literally, the medieval Renaissance magician would draw a magic circle around himself. From within this protective perimeter, he could then, as he believe, proceed to conjure up, channel and control powers or forces from celestial and infernal sources. Such forces were regarded as potentially dangerous. (...) powers he cannot effectively control - powers which (might) breach his protective circle and destroy him. But even if the magician does retain control over the forces he has invoked, the very circle that affords him protection also imposes on him restriction. He cannot step outside his circle without risking some harm from the what he has loosed. And the magic circle thus becomes a prison, insulating but also isolating the magician from the reality that lies beyond it - a reality in which newly unleashed and potent principles now move unpredictably at large." (pages 335-336)

Worth to mention, that that chapter (The Magical Circle) had only three entries on his bibliographical references on pages 399-400, and not references related to the citation above, so it reflects the author's opinion on the subject.

Do you agree with that?

"The Lost Symbol" and the Ancient Wisdom

Reading Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" I saw this convergence message of a unification between modern (scientific) and ancient knowledge. The author showing the last advancements in Noetic Sciences give us an insight about what is about to happen in near future.

As we can see, scientific mind all over the world became linked to one or another mystical path of development of consciousness and now they are reflecting in their scientific work the results of their incursions into the ancient wisdom. "Noetic" sciences is a direct reflection of a rosicrucian influence on the scientific research. The modern mind is opening up to the Cosmos and start to see the correspondences like "as above, so below"...

Also "The Lost Symbol" give us a metaphor for the search of the Ancient Wisdom. Look at the symbols the author used:

The trunked Pyramid
The Pyramid's capstone
The staircase to the underground buried "Secret"
The "Lost Word"

The Trunked Pyramid - refers to the human spiritual development that need to be completed.

The Pyramid capstone - refers to the Divine Key that need to used to unlock the Ancient Wisdom and complete the human development. The Divine Key is the contact with our Higher Self, Genius or Guardian Angel.

The Underground staircase - refers to the Path that accesses the deep recess of our mind (our subconscious mind) to retrieve the treasure of Ancient Wisdom that is waiting for us (the Kabbalah?) under the guidance of our Higher Self.

The hidden treasure of Ancient Wisdom - refers to the liberating knowledge given by the Tradional Schools of Mystery to guide us to the final step of our development.

The "Lost Word" - Which have many meanings in the Hermetic tradition. The Atlantean lost word of power for Ancient and Mystic Ordo Rosae Crucis or the FreeMason Lost Word or key to the ancient wisdom.

Anyway, the book is fascinating and I recomment to all our frateres and sorores. Very stimulating.

Golden Dawn: An Unifield Field of Knowledge

Reflecting on the Magi history of the past few centuries we came to a conclusion that the Golden Dawn system was a natural evolution of the ideas of the Magi, particularly of John Dee, Giordano Bruno, Paracelso, Agripa and Robert Fludd.

John Dee, may had two major contributions to the future development of the Golden Dawn system of magic. First, after he immersed himself in the Emperor Rudolph of Prague's vast collection of esoterica he may have planted the seeds for the future Rosicrucian manifestos, and also after he compiled the Enochian system.

Giordano Bruno, endevoured to create a training program whereby magicians might transmute their own mind into a conduit for cosmic power to attract celestial energies to be able to project them focused in concentrated form.

Robert Fludd, endevoured to unite the Hermetical sciences into a coherent whole, including Alchemy, Astrology, Kabbala, numerology, sacred Geometry and others.

From the work layed out by those luminaries it seems that the whole concept of the Golden Dawn started to take shape in the mind of those Adepts who where selected by the Secret Chiefs to externalize the Ancient Science, moving the realization of the Divine from an individual quest to the perfection of the society. Hermetical "Symbols" are charged cells in the magical matrix

For the Hermeticist, and also for the student of the Golden Dawn, the analogies and correspondences connecting the various levels of reality are expressed by symbols.

Hermetical Symbols, like sounds, letters and words in Egyptian and Hebrew are repositories of energy - they work like cross stitches in the fabric of reality (the matrix). These symbols-cells can be ACTIVATED using particular rituals learned from our studies in the Golden Dawn.

From that can we conclude that Hermeticism is not only theory but a concrete methodology of practical magic? A methodology including mental disciplines (meditation, memory training and breath control) and Astrology and Alchemy?

Rose Cross Trice Great (Trimegistus)

Investigating the origins of the Rosicrucian “Perennial Philosophy” I found that during the public manifestation of the Golden und Rose Cross in German, the Order included the 3 main areas of mystical and magical thought and practice: Hermeticism (including Mysticism, Magic and Theurgy), Alchemy and Astrology.

The mastering of these ancient sciences made Hermes to become legendary called the “Trimegistus” or 3 times great.

Despite of the original Rosicrucian corpus was a mixture of these 3 sciences we are witnessing some kind of specialization in the various modern “flavours” or manifestations of the Rosicrucian orders.

AMORC - Chose to teach Mysticism without Magic or Theurgy, little of Alchemy and less of Astrology.

B.O.T.A. – Selected the Tarot (part of the Hermetic philosophy), Kabala and Astrology as their main stream of teachings.

Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn - Have a full mix of all the sciences, making emphasis of each at their grade levels and orders.

Why that phenomenon is happening? Those ancient sciences were undivided and fully integrated in the past, because they preached the wholeness approach to the Divine. So what is happen when they are taught separated? Fragmented initiation into the Mysteries? Is that fragmentation of the knowledge mirroring the fragmentation of knowledge we found in modern science? Are we trying to apply new concepts of knowledge to the ancient wisdom? Just now that we are experiencing a convergence in science; that the Quantum physics show us the need of a whole approach to knowledge; are we trying to break the ancient and whole wisdom apart?

AMORC & Golden Dawn (ordens) tem suas origens em uma Tradicão mais antiga e maior que ambas?

Pesquisando fontes históricas eu estou chagando à conclusão de que estas duas linhas de ensinamentos tem suas origens historicas em Chirstian Rosencreutz e nos manifestos R+Cs do inicio de 1600.

Daí eu me pergunto: E se ambos os movimentos, mesmo que aparentemente diferentes em expressão, fossem aspectos complementares de uma mesma tradição?

Mas, temos algums argumentos para sustentar esta conclusão?

Vamos considerar os fatos abaixo, coletados atravez de anos de experiência e estudos na AMORC (40 anos) e na Golden Dawn:

1. De acôrdo com os ensinamentos, ambos vizam guiar o estudante dos mistérios para contactar seu Eu Interior (Eu Superior ou Genio Superior).

2. De acôrdo com os ensinamentos, ambos convidam o estudante a elevar suas vibracões para atingir a Maestria.

3. Ambos usam rituais para permitir o estudante contactar com a egrégora (ou as correntes) de sua Tradicão.

4. Ambos usam rituais para permitir o estudante contactar com os planos mais elevados e obter inspiração e orientação para sua vida mundana e mística.

5. Ambos usam técnicas teúrgicas como clarividência (com bola de cristal), meditação em símbolos, assunção de sêres e materiais, etc., como recurso de atrair energias psíquicas e conhecimento dos planos superiores.

6. Ambos usam técnicas respiratórias, visualizações e mantras (palavras sagradas) para desenvolver os centros psíquicos (chakras) dos estudantes.

7. Ambos usam exercícios psíquicos para desenvolver as capacidades mentais dos estudantes, tais como telepatia, clarividência, radiestesia, projeção astral, etc., permitindo que eles operem nos planos superiores.

8. A Golden Dawn se diz Teúrgica e não Mística, enquanto a AMORC se diz uma organização essencialmente Mística. Porém, nós que as praticamos, sabemos que a para praticar a Teúrgia é necessário que o praticante atinja aquêle estado Místico apropriado para a cerimônia. Assim, a base é a mesma.

9. Ambos procuram contacto com os Mestres para guiar os estudantes ao longo do Caminho.

10. Finalmente, e mais importante, é que ambos admitem que eles estão subordinados a uma Ordem Rosacruz superior (invisível), chamada pela AMORC de "Manções Secretas da R+C", e pela GD de "Os Chefes Secretos". Alegan que os ensinamentos propagados por ambas organizações tem sua origem nesta Ordem superior (sem organização visível) assim como uma orientação geral sobre a divulgação destes ensinamentos por elas.

Assim, qual é realmente a diferença? É uma diferença de abordagem no mesmo caminho da iluminação? Ou elas apenas estão propagando ensinamentos em diferentes níveis sobre o mesmo Ensinamento?

Se esse é o caso, a AMORC pode estar realisando a vizão de Émile Dantinne (Sâr Hiéronymus), de uma Rosacruz Universitária, aberta à uma vasta audiência de não iniciados, trainando-os a suportar os elevados níveis de energia requeridos num trabalho mais avançado, como o da Golden Dawn.

Em minha humilde opinião, isto é exatamente o que está acontecendo. Acho que os dois Caminhos não declaram explicitamente sua estratégia para não desmotivar o iniciante na jornada (particularmente a AMORC). Entretanto, mesmo assim, eu acho que uma maior informação a respeito da Golden Dawn deveria ser disseminada entre os estudantes mais avançados da AMORC, de modo que eles possam decidir se estão preparados para atingir um nível inteiramente novo de estudos e exploração neste Universo Mágico oferecido pela Golden Dawn.

Para àqueles estudantes que procuram os Portais da GD, mas que não possuem prévio estudo e experiência, poderiam ser orientados para que procurassem a AMORC como escola preparatória. Assim, teríamos assegurado uma sólida fundação de preparação para aquêles que querem chegar ao desenvolvimento da Alquemia Hermética ensinada pela Terceira Ordem da Ordem Hermética da Golden Dawn.

Assim, em nossa vizão, a mútua colaboração entre estes dois poderozos movimentos contribuiria para trazer ao mundo maior sabedoria e unificação do desenvolvimento espiritual da Humanidade e não um constante ressaltar de diferenças entre meras organizacões, que são nada mais que o aspecto externo de mais vasto plano de evolução da Ser humano.

Are AMORC & Golden Dawn off-shots of an older and greater Tradition?

Resourcing to historical sources I came to a conclusion that both paths traced their origins back to Chirstian Rosencreutz, to the Fama and related Rosicrucian manifestos.

What if we consider the possibility that AMORC and GD are complimentary paths towards the same goal?

Are there arguments to support that conclusion?

Let’s consider the facts related to both paths:

1. According to their teachings, they seek to guide the student to contact their Higher Self (Genius).

2. They exhort the student to perfect their inferior vibrations to achieve self mastery.

3. They use rituals to allow the student to connect themselves with the egregore (or currents) of the Order.

4. They use rituals to develop the student’s ability to attune themselves with higher planes or sources knowledge and wisdom.

5. They use theurgist techniques such as scrying (crystal reading), meditation on symbols, assumption of forms, etc to draw on psychic energies and knowledge from higher planes.

6. They use breathing techniques, visualizations and mantras (sacred words) to develop the student’s psychic centres or chakras.

7. They use psychic exercises to develop student’s mental abilities such as telepathy, clairaudience, radiestesy, astral projection, etc to develop their abilities to operate in the higher planes.

8. Their claimed “differences” of being “theurgistical” rather than “mystical” organisations (that’s the case of GD claims), which is not a real difference, since theurgist magic has the mystical atunement as pre-requisite for work.

9. They claim contact with high Masters to have guidance on their path.

10. Finally and most importantly, they claim that they are subjected to a higher Order, the Invisible Rose-Croix (or the Secret Chiefs), which provide their teachings and guidelines so they can act upon the world.

So what is the real difference? The difference can be found in their approach to the path of illumination? Or they were guided to deliver the same teachings on different levels?

If so, can we see AMORC as fulfilling the Émile Dantinne (Sâr Hiéronymus) vision of a Rosicroix Universite (a Rosicrucian University) open to a wide audience, training them to be able to handle high levels of mystical and magical work, preparing them to the admission into the Golden Dawn tradition?

In my humble opinion, that’s exactly what is happening. I think that both paths do not explicitly state that implied strategy avoiding de-motivating their neophytes early on the Path (particularly AMORC). Therefore, I think, more information on that subject should be given to AMORC advanced students, so they can progress along the Path, if they decided that they can handle an entire new level of understanding and exploration of the magical Universe.

Also would be equally good for the GD seekers to know that they need to prepare themselves to get the best GD can provide; and AMORC may be right choice for beginners. For those who want to build a solid foundation for their Hermetic Alchemy studies in the Third Order.

The best of both worlds however, would be that both organizations recognise the value of each other’s work, credit each other achievements, resources and common goals working with wisdom towards humanity’s development and not regarding their own organization as means of differentiation but union toward the Path of Return.

O Processo de Illuminacao segundo Paul Foster Case

Paul Foster Case, Adepto da GD e tambem fundou sua propria order chamada Builders of the Aditum (Os Construtores do Templo). Eu considero este autor um dos maiores e mais profundos rosacruzes dos tempos modernos. Ele, em seu livro sobre a Verdadeira e Invisivel Rosacruz ele traca uma coneccao entre o misticismo rosacruz e a cabala revelando os mais profundos significados velados nos simbolos rosacruzes.

Por exemplo, na parte dedicada a Tumba de CR+C ele nos da' um informacao da maior importancia como resultado da decodificacao do simbolismo desta camara: O Processo de Iluminacao. Ele diz que a verdadeira fonte da Luz Interior (como e' explicado na Fama), provem do nosso Sol, o astro central de nosso sistema solar e reponsavel por toda a vida na Terra. Segundo PFC, quando analisando a Camara de CR+C, o processo de iluminacao e' resultado de uma conversao de energias captadas de uma maneira especial (como ensinado nos 3 graus da Terceira Order da HOGD - 8, 9 e 10 graus).

Ele afirma que o processo da iluminacao requer aspectos fisicos e metafisicos para sua ocorrencia. Este processo envolve mudancas na constituicao do sangue do Adepto, mudancas no cerebro, e alteracoes na estrutura e funcao das celulas do seu corpo, culminando com a criacao de um novo "Corpo de Luz" ou "Corpo Solar". Com este novo "corpo" seremos capazes, depois da morte do corpo fisico, nos integrar com as mais altas consciencias que residem no Sol, na estrela do nosso sistema planetario. Este e' o mais elevado estagio da transformacao da Alquima Espiritual.A HOGD afirma que as estrelas (sois) sao o ambiente em que existem as mais elevadas consciencias planetarias.

Considerando minha experiencia pessoal nos graus iniciais da HOGD (Hermetica Order da Golden Dawn), ja' noto um fator que parece apoiar estas afirmacoes. Por examplo, fazendo um paralelo com o trabalho da AMORC que se circunscreve aos centros psiquicos da cabeca e do torax, como era de se esperar, a HOGD trabalha com estes centros mas expande o trabalho de desenvolvimento para os centros alem do corpo, como aquele situado abaixo dos pes (nosso ligacao com as energias planetarias) e com aquele situado acima da nossa cabeca (a sede do Higher Self ou nosso Eu Interior).

De fato, eu tenho experimentado, com varios exercicios (rituais assim chamados na GD) e particularmente com aquele denominado Pilar Central (ou do meio) uma ativacao energetica de todos os meus centros, energizados apartir daquele acima da cabeca (vamos chamar de oitavo centro) fluindo energia para todos os demais atravez do corpo ate atingir aquele abaixo dos pes, causando uma profunda vibracao em todo o meu corpo e estabelecendo um fluxo continuo de Luz Divina atravez do universo criando em nosso centro a verdadeira R+C.

Cada vez eu tenho mais certeza de que os ensinamentos da GD foram concebidos para estudantes avancados no caminho e nao para iniciantes. Isso se confirma atravez de depoimentos do Imperator da HOGD quando ele afirma que somente sao selecionados para entrar na Order aqueles que ja tem uma historia de estudo e pratica mistica.

Assim, aquela indicacao do HSL no 11 Grau da AMORC e' correta, quando ele nos diz que os mais avancados estudos rosacruzes devem ser produrados na GD...

The Illumination Process acc to Paul F. Case

Paul Foster Case an Adept of the Golden Dawn and also founded his own order called The Builders of the Adytum (http://www.bota.org/). I consider this author one of the greater and most advanced Rosicrucians of modern times. In his book "The True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order" (http://www.amazon.com/True-Invisible-Rosicrucian-Order-Interpretation/dp/0877287090), he makes the connection between the Rosicrucian mysticism and Caballa revealing the deeper meanings of the Rosicrucians old and obscured symbols. For example, from the CR+C Vault, he gives us information of the utmost importance as a result of the de-codification of the Vault symbolism: The Enlightment process.

He says that the true source of the Divine Light (such as Interior Light as explained in the Fama), is drawn from our Sun, the central star of our solar system and responsible for all life on Earth.

According to PFC, the Enlightment process is the result of an energy conversion using a particular and secret alchemical knowledge. He says that the process of Enlightment requires physical and metaphysic aspects to happen. This process involves changes in blood constitution, changes in the brain, and change in the structure and function of the body cells, culminating with the creation of a new "body light" or "Solar" body. With this new "body" we will be able, after the death of the physical body, to commune with the highest consciousness who reside in the Sun, the star of our planetary system. This is the highest stage of alchemical spiritual transformation.

Which comes in accordance with the information provided by the HOGD as taught in the 3 degrees of the third Order of HOGD (http://www.hermeticgoldendawn.org/) (8, 9 and 10 degrees).

The HOGD says that the stars are the environment in which highest planetary consciousnesses evolve.

In fact, my initial experience in the initial grades of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn seems to support these affirmations. As I recall, the work I have experienced with AMORC (http://www.amorc.org/) is particularly related to the psychic centres (Chakras) confined to the head and the thorax. It turns out that, as expected, the HOGD works with these centres but extends the development work beyond the body, using centres like the one below of feet (our connection with the planetary energy) and the one above our head (the seat of the “Higher Self” or our “I inside”).

What I have experienced with various exercises (so-called rituals in GD) and with a particularly one called the Middle Pillar ritual is that all my body centres have been energized from that one above the head (let's call it the eighth Centre, Kether) flowing energy for all others until riching the one below the feet, causing deep vibrations throughout my body and establishing a divine Light connection to the stars (the deepest structures the universe) creating the real manifestation of the R+C.

Each time I'm more confident that the lessons of the GD were designed for advanced students in the path and not for beginners. This is also confirmed by the testimony of HOGD when they say that they accept in the Order those who already have a history and practise of mystical study.

That also rings the bell when I read AMORC’s 11 degree (written by HSL) saying that advancements in Rosicrucians studies can only be found in the GD...
