Is A.M.O.R.C. a Contacted School?

During my A.M.O.R.C. studies comparing origin, structure and teachings, a question came up to my mind, to which I, after some consideration: Is the Ancient and Mystical Order Rose Cross (A.M.O.R.C.) a "contacted" school? To answer that question we also needed to clarify what we mean by "contacted". Let's explore the subject matter in question on this post.

I would like to open a discussion regarding the concept of an Adept and its required preparation in an esoteric school settings like the Rosicrucian orders, not only AMORC but other Rosicrucian schools or orders as well

Note: This is not a work of fiction but a deep research into the subject supported by many years of study and practices and directed to sincere students of the Rosicrucian Traditions.

The result of my investigation is presented here as my personal experience and interpretation only. This post is not intended to as any anti propaganda against A.M.O.R.C. or it's members, on the contrary. My aim, exploring and investigating various aspects of A.M.O.R.C. teachings and structure, is to rise awareness of things that can be improved for the betterment of its members and the humanity as a whole. I would appreciate to receive feedback from my A.M.O.R.C. peers doing their own experiments as I did. After all the true Rosicrucian shoul be a walking question mark!

Introduction

I would like to state the reasons why I decided to post the results of my thinking and meditations. As you have being following my posts regarding several aspects related with the teachings and activities of the Rosicrucian Order A.M.O.R.C., which I have being member and active student for the last 40 years, you may have noticed that I am trying to question deeply into the various aspects of the Order. Because I feel that they need improvement.

One of those aspects which made me re-thinking all that I have learned was the apparent diversity of teaching subjects, mixed apparently without a purpose.

According to the studies, those mixed elements should awake various dormant past experiences in each student recalling past initiations and showing the path followed by their Higher Self throughout several incarnations.

Another argument given is that the system of study works in levels, each time going deeper and deeper until the entire comprehension on the subjects are achieved.

However, after experienced all those high initiations provided by the Order in the high degres and considering the involvement of the Order with the European occultists in the beginning of the 20th Century, particularly with the organization of the F.U.D.O.S.I., I realized that were indications that those rituals and initiations were borrowed from other initiatic orders and that was another indication that A.M.O.R.C. lost its contact with the authentic Rosicrucian sources, in case it was ever in contact with them.

As a result it seems that the Order per si didn't received any special instruction from the Masters during its period of activity and the entire alleged "Rosicrucian" teachings were based on HSL own psychic researches and the materials borrowed from other affiliated organizations. That's why those teaching differ so much from other alleged "Rosicrucian" schools or orders. One important clue for that is a change in the number of monographs delivered to the students.

Originally, or until the year 2000, the student received 4 monographs by each month, having one monograph per week for study. Today the package was cut in a half and the students are receiving only 2 monographs per month, at least in the higher degrees. For instance, in the past a student needed 6 years to complete the 12th Degree having to study 325 monographs. Today they need 12 years to complete that degree. Why the need to extend the study period like that? Too many people reaching the top Degrees too early? Dry source of teachings?

Another interesting happening is the latest review of the AMORC teachings started in the year 2011 by the new Imperator Christian Bernard.

Seems that it tuned into a tradition, every Imperator changed or improved the deliver of the Order's teachings. The first Imperator HSL create the Lodge and private Sanctum studies; his sucessor RML improved the correspondence course and created the 12th Degree and finally the 13th Degree (called Ordo Summum Bonum); and the latest Imperator CB promoted a further review of the higher Degrees dropping the 13th and incorporating its contents into the new and revised 12th Degree.

At least, seems that AMORC used some of my suggestions and created an online membership affiliation. According with he contact with members that are receiving monographs online (electronic format) they are reporting receiving monographs in double (two issues by Monograph) and the octal number of monographs per Degree in compared with previous editions are less in number.

Other important clue for that line of reasoning is that during more than a century A.M.O.R.C. teachings are the same and the current directors are driving the organization away from their alleged GWB Masters toward a less mystical and more "experimental" or "scientific" teachings, seeking social approval and acceptance.

Most of the initial mystical impetus demonstrated by HSL has being carefully and sistematically removed from the monographs. But the old publications remain attesting the old enthusiastic start. My blog includes comments on various of those articles and occurrence of changes in the Master Monographs, which are the essential study material delivered to A.M.O.R.C. students.

Another important clue for the lack of connection between the A.M.O.R.C.'s "Esoteric Hierarchy" of members and the Masters was the apparent unsuccessful experiment carried out by the first two Imperators, HSL and his son and successor RML.

That experiment was aimed to create an internal group of advanced Adept like members who should gather in a mental/astral conclave at specific times during the year to attune themselves with the Masters and all the members in tune and open to receive higher initiations, teachings and insights about the Order's destiny and affairs. Those who were successful in attaining such attunement were invited to share their insightful knowledge or visions directly with the Imperator for the betterment and improvement of the Order teachings and its path in assisting the humanity as a whole. However, even though the Order reached world expansion and influence, seems that the project is not getting it's expected results.

For instance, was expected that the student may get some psychic clues of a bigger plan, small visions, musical notes, insights, etc. But was the task of the Imperator analyses all those clues and figured out the big picture and apply those resources at his own discretion.

To my knowledge, after been talking to senior members and visiting several local temples (Pronaoi and Lodges) what we see is that senior members become less and less interested in the Order and caring less to their overall contributions to the system. Why is that happening with such a wonderful project and concept? May the cause is the lack of effective contact with the Masters? Or advanced members not having any participation of that analytical process?

Comments: An important point to consider is that: Is AMORC preparing their students for such task? Are the Degrees well designed to provide means to achieve such a contact?

Also A.M.O.R.C. advanced members may be aware that the Order have mixed a lot of different traditions and practices. Among them we may highlight the Egyptian and Greek philosophical pantheons and references to the Great White Brotherhood (GWB) of the Master of Wisdom. The GWB was first reveled by H.P. Blavatsky via the Theosophical Society. Some of its advanced students have been contacted by some of the Masters, like Kut-Hu-Mi, Moria El and the Count of Saint Germain (a.k.a. Count Rackosy). Why is that? Considering the Order corpus of teachings in its entirety seems that those traditions were assimilated in order to give to the Order a "Traditional" origin to the view of the public.

Note: A.M.O.R.C. does not include any specific teachings as having its origin from a particular GWB Master, choosing to provide only guidance to contact some of those Masters above referred using A.M.O.R.C. psychic techniques (including visualizations and astral projections).

What it Means "Contacted"?

Let's take a broad view on the subject at hand. Off-shot orders derived from the last century Order of the Golden Dawn, particularly those created from the teachings of the Adept Dion Fortune, like the School of the Inner Light, Fraternitas LVX Occulta and Servants of the Light, and A.M.O.R.C. as well, all claimed to be "contacted" schools. What they mean by that?

According to Dion Fortune, a contacted school is one which have among their members advanced Adepts with the esoteric skills/ability to contact beings from higher planes of existence. Helena Blavatsky stated that Master K.H. (Kuthumi) and Master Morya worked with her to present the theosophical teachings she formulated in her books Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine. A.P. Sinnett, A. O.

Hume and others also wrote documents they described as having been dictated by Kuthumi. Some of these letters formed the basis for several books by Sinnett. They are also a main part of The Mahatma Letters, a compiled book of letters to Mr. Sinnett from K.H. and Morya. Alice Bailey also wrote that she had met Koot Hoomi (Kuthumi) on June 30, 1895. Bailey stated that he appeared to her as a turbaned man of non-European ethnicity dressed in a European-style suit.

So "contacted" means that the school must maintain a minimum number of members in contact with a Master(s) via or from the Inner Planes receiving fresh teachings and guidance (related to personal or school matters).

A.M.O.R.C. aims to achieve such contacts via the "Esoteric Hierarchy" of members. The Esoteric Hierarchy was create as an Astral Conclave of members and Masters. A.M.O.R.C. Members are instructed to attune during particular periods of the year (schedule usually provided as part of a private publication entitled "Rosicrucian Forum") with the EH. That is been considered an work of the Adepti.

Harvey Spencer Lewis (HSL), the first Imperator of the current cycle, also said to be in contact with Kut-Hu-Mi and Saint Germain (refer to my Master Monographs Index on the 12th Degree, Contact with the Masters topic), referring to them as patrons of the Rosicrucian Order. An important characteristic of such contacts is that those teachings are be passed to their students as a result their participation in the system. That kind of contact may be happening to individual A.M.O.R.C. students, by their own merit and efforts, but seems that is not happening as a result of our A.M.O.R.C. affiliation as promised by the founding Imperator HSL.

IMPORTANT

Here I am humbling inviting all my Frateres and Sorores that are reading this post and are studying the A.M.O.R.C. higher degrees to express your opinions and experiences with us in this blog. That will contribute to a better view on this subject. Also contact your peers and ask them to do the same. I believe that having a clear view of that system of contact working will provide to all of those working with the EH a better view helping to workout their difficulties and techniques used.

Contact to Which Realm?

Authors on esoterism and occultism use various denominations referring to the origin of such contacts. Here we can list some of them:
  • Higher Planes (Dimensions or Levels of Consciousness?)
  • Higher Spheres (Dimensions or Sephiras?)
  • Astral Plane (Descarnated people)
  • Spiritual Realm (Broad definition)
  • Inner Worlds (Astral?)
  • Inner School (Advanced Adepts? Secret Chiefs? Rosicrucian Masters?)

We need a full research to define in depth each of those terms, what is unfortunately beyond the scope of this post. Refer to the examples below.
"The composition and content of the Inner Worlds is contained in (Dion) Fortune’s understanding of the Kabbalah and the glyph of the Tree of Life, which served as a most important framework for classifying the range of beings said to inhabit the invisible worlds." (John Selby, 2008)
"Each plane and its corresponding aspect of consciousness is opened up under the aegis of the Lord of the Ray, whose name is the supreme Word of Power of that Plane." (Dion Fortune (1924), page 15)
"Schools of magic begin with the inspired leadership of one human being. That person is always guided by spirits*, who are the true teachers of the school." (Donald Tyson, 2014)

*Contact to Which Beings?

That also varies a lot from school to school, from order to order and from author to author. Some times those beings are referred to as Intelligences, Spirits, Elementals, Devas (Elemental King), Lords or Masters. May be the terminology is reflecting the level of the contact and the intention of the communication. What seems to be relevant to our discussion is that the planetary/sephirotic Intelligences, the Elementals and Devas can be contacted according to the practitioner's will, but they not always return what has been asked for. However, in the case of the Lords or Masters the contact happens at their discretion, not from the caller. Quite the opposite, as the Masters may contact students or practioners of the mystical/magical arts when they are ready for such contact. Let's reflect upon the quote below:

"These Great Ones, who are the nearest kin to humanity of all the Lords of Evolution, having attained their development in the Cosmic Day immediately preceding our own, appeared upon the earth during the middle of the Atlantean Period. These are the ‘High Priests after the Order of Melchizedek,' being without father or mother and building their physical vehicles without human assistance. It was their office to communicate with the concrete mind of humanity, and forge a connecting chain of associated ideas from consciousness to subconsciousness, thereby enabling man to pick up the subtler vibrations which are the voice of the higher spheres. (...)
These great entities gathered about themselves bands of students selected from the most promising of the race to which they came, and developed their faculties until they were able to cognize consciously those subtle types of vibration which hitherto they had only been able to perceive intuitively, thus recovering the primitive type of mentation upon a higher arc. This having once been accomplished, the Manus were able to withdraw to those planes upon which they could function with greater ease and freedom, summoning their pupils to ‘rise upon the planes’ and attend them there for instruction, and leaving it to those same pupils to train others as they themselves had been trained, thus recruiting the occult school through succeeding generations."
(Dion Fortune (1924), page 8)
Students of the Rosicrucian Order A.M.O.R.C., according to Harvey Spencer Lewis, are directed to come in contact with the Masters, who are currently living on the higher planes as well. Among those Masters are El Morya, Saint Germain and one of the old incarnations of HSL himself, Master Danius. The Masters listed belong to the Theosophical pantheon called the Great White Brotherhood of Masters, whose original settlement where in the Tibetan mountains.

HSL through the A.M.O.R.C.'s master monographs, the study material provided to its members during the course of their affiliation, at the high degrees, tells us about those Masters and how to contact them. The technique is simple and can be described as a visualization and invocation of the Master's name in the realm of the psychic contact.HSL also instructed A.M.O.R.C.students to rise their consciousness into the Cathedral of the Soul to contact the Esoteric Hierarchy (members in communion) and attend some lectures from the Masters themselves in special EH periods.

The Cathedral of the Soul is an A.M.O.R.C.astral construct to serve as a inner temple for healing and meditation. Be in tune with the Cathedral of the Soul do not guarantee to the student contact with a Master, which will happens, if appropriate, at their discretion.

Therefore, should the student:
  • Rely on traditional teaching passed through the ages or should they be freshly updated by the new insights provided by a living contact with the Masters of Wisdom?
  • Rely on an individual solely chosen to receive and to pass on the Master teachings or should the school work to create a body of advanced students attuned to the Master(s) and able to transmit their teaching to future generations of students - the College of the Adepti?

What Are the Results of Such Contacts?

Actually, that is not a clear subject, and depends of the approach of the organization or school and the goal they declare to be achieved.

From my current understanding, such contacts are aimed to acquire power, knowledge and guidance in the mystical/magical studies and practices, depending on the student intentions. Those who aimed to gain power over the Elementals and people may be driven by the lower self as they lost their righteous way to reach the Cosmic. Those who aimed knowledge and wisdom may be driven by their Higher Selves aiming to consciously connected with the Source (Cosmic Consciousness).

Divination Techniques Used

Taking the background information provided into account I decided to explore those questions proposed at the beginning of this post even further using some divination techniques.

The Radionic Pendulum

I decided to direct our question to my Higher Self via the Radionic Pendulum. That device is used to evaluate and answer any kind of inquire using the Pendulum.

So after some preparation I asked my Higher Self: it was divine to inquire in such matters?
>> The answer was a strong YES.

Then I posed the main question and checking questions:

Is A.M.O.R.C. a contacted school?
>> The answer was a strong NO.

Is the A.M.O.R.C board of directors or it's Supreme Council in contact with the GWB?
>> The answer was a strong NO.

Are A.M.O.R.C. students in contact with the GWB?
>> The answer was a strong NO.

Interesting results, as I was expecting the opposite. So I decided to investigate the mater even further using other meditation techniques described in the following sections.

The Seed Meditation Technique

The seed meditation technique is mainly found in the teachings of Dion Fortune and can be easily described by the following steps:

1. Prepare yourself with relaxation exercises and rhythmic breath.
2. Choose a statement or question as a thought seed for you meditation.
3. Relax your body and mind before start by doing rhythmic breath.
4. Take you seed thought and see it as a 3D image and them look at it from its various angles registering your impressions.
5. Then clear you mind and let your subconscious mind provide all the associations with your seed thought. Do not check anything, let them come and flow freely.
6. After a while, close your seed meditation session and take notes of all your thoughts or impressions.

Allowing the meditation technique I started to visualize the question at hand and then from its various points of view. Afterwards I let the associated ideas flow and finally I took notes of my impressions.

Results:

Visualizing the question I saw A.M.O.R.C. Organization connected with blue and brilliant energy filaments into something, which wasn't clear. So I focused on those filaments and a clear image came up. A.M.O.R.C. was connected to an egregore formed by its members, the Esoteric Hierarchy, all around the world as a result of their Thursdays night sanctum convocations. However, trying to explore even further, I decided to use my Merkaba to rich the higher levels, the Earth's Cosmic Grid. Anchoring my Merkaba onto the Cosmic Grid above the Earth and probing the Grid about the subject of my inquiry I had an insight that the A.M.O.R.C.'s egregore was not in contact with the Cosmic Grid of the Great White Brotherhood (GWB) of the Masters.

Those results match the aim of A.M.O.R.C.'s activities such as the reunion into the astral Cathedral of the Soul and the Esoteric Hierarchy. Also they match the basic aim of A.M.O.R.C.'s exercises, which is the astral projection or OBE.

Note: The Masters usually operates in a higher level than the Astral.

Skrying into the A.M.O.R.C. Egregore

Skrying techniques were developed by the Adepts of the Order of the Golden Dawn between the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century. They are not Astral projections but mental projections, much alike to remote viewing techniques. The practitioner maintain full consciousness of both environments, inner and outer and being able to describe their visions on other realms if necessary.

The fundamental aspect for the skrying exploration of the inner realms is a Symbol that will to be used as a dimensional portal or interface between both worlds (outer/inner). That symbol need to be embedded with meaning related to the target investigation, it needs to be linked to the egregore to explore.

So, for the purpose of this activity I used the symbols which are already imprinted by the A.M.O.R.C.'s Egregore as such:

Brief description of the technique used:

1. Required preparation and protection, observing each symbol in all its details.
2. Recalling the attributes given by A.M.O.R.C. to the symbol.
3. Visualizing the symbol as an 3D image.
4. Expanding the image until it turns into a Portal.
5. Using the Sign of the Enterer to open the Portal.
6. Projecting my psychic vision through the Portal opened.
7. On the other side, I searched the realm's landscape for signs.
8. Calling out for the Guardian of the Egregore.
9. Greetings the Guardian and checking its autenticity by using the Lost Word.
10. Asking the Guardian all the questions above and keeping the answers.
11. Thanking the Guardian and returning to the Portal using the Sign of the Enterer.
12. Back to the physical plane I took notes of the impressions received.

Results:

My first attempt was successful. I crossed the portal using the Triangle+Ansata Cross. On the other side was a grey-bluish misty and I couldn't see anything, but it was region or landscape to explore. Several images crossed my mind. Images related to A.M.O.R.C. illustrations that I have seen in the past, but I decided not to fix on those and having a free take of that realm. Then a question occurred to me. What/Who is the guardian of A.M.O.R.C. egregore? Then I recalled that HSL said that Master Kut-Hu-Mi is the patron of the Rosicrucians, so may be should I call him?

My second contact can be described as:

I started by visualizing the Symbol in 3D and I felt that the Rose was the door for the Portal. I make the entrance using the Sign of the Enterer and vibrating the Lost Word given by AMORC in the 9th Degree.

Feeling be on the other side, I notice the same landscape and misty background and I called for the Guardian of the Rosicrucian Order AMORC’s Egregore. Immediately I felt a presence, which I couldn’t define but was there. I test it using the Lost Word and it holds it. Then I started to declare my intentions and asked the questions above listed.

The answers were confirmations of those obtained before, with the exception that relating to the Supreme Council and some members of the Esoteric Hierarchy, it gave the impression that some of its members has contact with the Masters but not all of them.

Conclusions

I would like to add that the study of A.M.O.R.C.'s master monographs was of the extreme value in my education and spiritual development. Despite of all limitations mentioned in my posts that teaching material was ingeniously mastered by its founder HSL and it helps to change materialistic and separated views of the Cosmos into a infield field of magical experience. I believe that material is the foundation of current views of the Universe as a whole and have changed and motivate the life of thousands of people from all walks of life throughout the world.

However, if the student goes deeper in that open field of investigation they will probably came to the same conclusion as I did. From my investigations, using the references quoted and adding my personal investigation using the divination techniques mentioned, I realized that A.M.O.R.C. is currently a non contacted school, and their members, even though through the creation of an egregore called Esoteric Hierarchy they haven't reach that contact either. Exception may be added on a individual basis.

The logic question may be raised: Why? An organisation so widespread as  A.M.O.R.C. should have the power to raise a powerful contact with the Masters of Wisdom. Why this is not happening?

We only can speculate...

Are the A.M.O.R.C.'s method of contact with the "higher intelligences" not effective? Is the concept of an Esoteric Hierarchy effective? If isn't why not? Did A.M.O.R.C.'s founders put to much emphasis in their Imperator as the supreme integrator of all esoteric insights received by the EH members? iOS there a lack of communication between EH participant members?

May be A.M.O.R.C. Supreme Council should allow the EH members share their experiences online, in a restrict access environment, registering the EH members experience using an online database. That kind of modern tool may help them to connect their collective experience providing new guidelines for the Order and better integration and better vehicle for the work of the Masters of Wisdom.

  1. The AMORC is the tomb of Father CRC from which he, like Lazerus, is resurrected. It was never meant to be a means of creating adepts. Adepts are born not made. A Mozart or Bach are rarities of the first order. Such genius flowers but a few times in each generation. Adepts are among these precious few that bring light into the world. The production of an Adept is a herculean task that has no peer. The changes that the human psyche must undergo to reach this level of attainment is almost beyond comprehension and one lifetime is insufficient to complete the training. "If the psychic idiosyncrasy is not present, no culture will apply it." This is the most succinct way to say that the AMORC was and always will be the outer school of the Brotherhood. It is not alone. There are other schools equally substantial and capable of developing esoteric students. One size most certainly does not fit all. The criticism rightfully deserved is that any attempt to produce phenomenon independent of a strong background of self discovery may lead to little progress and errant behavior. AMORC can fulfill its promise to the Adept, but cannot take the neophyte to the same level of achievement. The teachings are beneficial to anyone, so long as expectations are grounded in common sense, practicality, and do not lead to glamour and vanity. Fortunately, many are called but few are chosen. The Masters (as in any discipline) cannot spare the time or energy to hold the hands of degree holders or fraternal initiates. Far too much is made in martial arts of the color of the belt that a student wears around their waist. The faux esoteric student wants his degrees and temple initiations, but lacks the proverbial blood, sweat, tears, a service to humanity and nature, and the constant moment to moment striving for self discovery. It is not achieved by the cost or frequency of monographs, and of these - they are but the obituary of Father CRC in his sepulcher. When the student is ready...the Master will appear. Then he will be told to come forth the tomb...Lo, the Adept is reborn.

    1. Frater Obiron, I appreciate your comments on this blog as you have added very important points to discuss.

Lets started by quoting "Adepts are born not made." May be we need to clarify the concept of Adept in the Western Esoteric Tradition. At earlier stages of using the term Adept we have H.P. Blavatsky using the term Adept/Master interchangeably. So seems that at that stage the concept wasn't clear for the Theosophists. After that we have the manifestation of all major esoteric orders and authors like Eliphas Levi that used the term Adept meaning an advanced student on the Path but not a Master or Magi, yet. Finally we have AMORC, which do not use the term in a clear context (much like Blavatsky), however naming its high Degrees as stages for the Adept formation, like in the Temple Section: Adeptus Minor, Adeptus Major and Adeptus Exemptius (refer to http://rutilusdiluculo-cmills.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/amorc-master-monographs-index_19.html). If you go back to one of the first R+C externalizations in Germany after the Manifestos you will find the Ordo Golden und Rosencreutzer having the same grade structure and placing emphasis to the preparation of the Adept for the Magi/Master levels.

So we have a historic record of fraternal and authentic Rosicrucian Orders that designed their grade structure to prepare the student to be an Adept and the Adept to become a Magus/Master.

However, we must agree with your point that, no school can make an Adept or higher. What they do is to provide a method, a way to prepare the student until they would be able to transform themselves into an Adept. The Initiations provided are glimpses into their potential of realization, not impartation of power or ability to be/perform like an Adept. I also agree that grades/degrees were made for self-reference only, as a method of study, hierarchy of preparation, not embellishment for the student to bravado on others inflating egos. But as you know, everything depends on the student approach to Path. And at certain point of the Path, when the student is ready the Master/Higher Self is contacted to start the real path of the Adept through the Inner Planes.

      Profound Peace in L.V.X.

    2. Frater Obiron, now I would like to discuss your statement: "AMORC can fulfill its promise to the Adept, but cannot take the neophyte to the same level of achievement."

That's exactly my point embedded in all my posts related to AMORC; I also believe that "AMORC" cannot take the Neophyte to the Adept level.

Why? Let's take a look of what you meant by "AMORC"

Are you talking about the Order/Organization in general? If so it cannot fulfill the role of the Adept. Because Adepti are people, students on the Path.

If you are talking about the people that are heading the Order at the present stage, I am not sure if they all can be considered being at the Adept level, particularly considering the method of study AMORC has being using for their students since its inception. Taking my particular experience in AMORC Temples/Lodges I might say that administrative positions can be taken by anyone willing to volunteer to do so, not considering their inner achievements or degree of study. Any one can volunteer to be the Lodge "Master" regardless of their degree of study or esoteric knowledge or even inner realization (which cannot be verified by anyone).

Considering the above, we cannot disregard the possibility of a particular official of the Order been achieved the level of Adepti, but I doubt as you said that there are so many in the "Supreme" Grand Lodge or in the "Supreme" Council. To run an organization of this size they need all hands available...

Adding to my previous replay, I would like to add that is considered an Adept a student on the Path which have contacted their Higher Self or Inner Master gaining guidance beyond any teachings an esoteric school can provide. It is an inner achievement that obviously have a reflection in the outer behavior of the student and in their line of interests. The Adepti may work as a Hierophant, gaining inner knowledge and wisdom from the Inner Planes and passing it to the training students in the Order. We cannot see that happening in the AMORC system of study.

Exactly the opposite seems to happen with AMORC. Since Ralph Lewis took the Imperator sit he seemed to try diverge from the original mystical orientation given by HSL heading for the "safe" waters of scientific recognition. Instead of going deeper on the inner contacts he preferred to tread the lines obtaining recognition in the outer world for the Rosicrucian Principles and Cosmic Laws, caring less for the development of his students. Elsewhere in this blog I have pointed out how the HSL core teachings have being removed from the current monographs to avoid conflicts with the new "vision".

Other aspect that is not clear in the AMORC Master Monographs is What is the Rosicrucian Tradition? The core of all related Rosicrucian Orders in the past and present are related to the basic ancient sciences: Theurgy - Astrology - Alchemy. That's is exactly why Hermes/Thoth was called Trice-Great because he mastered all three basic ancient sciences - that's what we would called the preparation curriculum for the work of an Adept.

After 40 years of study, I realized that AMORC do not cover such curriculum giving to us, their students, glimpses into them only, and put emphasis on psychic abilities such as Astral Projection (which per si is highly dangerous endeavor without close monitoring and safe guards).

Anyway, that's my experience in the Order. Have being always a faithful student in my studies and practices, I recognize that the Order open up greater horizons into my inner development and as ever, the student got his own wings and got beyond of what was learned. What's the purpose of any teaching method...

      Profound Peace in L.V.X.

    3. Care Frater Obiron,

I would like to comment on: "The AMORC is the tomb of Father CRC from which he, like Lazerus, is resurrected. It was never meant to be a means of creating adepts."

Studying the various externalizations of the Rosicrucian Tradition originated from the original CRC Vault rediscovered by our fraters and mentioned in the Fama Fraternitatis (circa 1600), I would prefer to say that AMORC could not be considered the tomb of Frater CRC because its teachings are not completed and so they do not reflect the entire repository of the CRC Tomb or Vault.

Those teachings, according to the Fama included the 3 arcana sciences: Alchemy, Astrology and Theurgy. Those sciences are obviously not included in the AMORC teachings which stress its no involvement with Magic and Kabbalah (both aspects of Theurgy) mentioned in the Fama as the Book M (found in the Vault) neither delve deeply enough into esoteric Alchemy or esoteric Astrology. Not to mention into the Book T, the esoteric science of Tarot also mentioned in the Fama as be found into the CRC Vaut.

As you can see from the historical records, various Rosicrucian schools have chosen to show emphasis not in all but in one particular of those sciences.

Also is worth to add that the source of the Western Rosicrucian Tradition was Germany with the Gold und Rosencreutz Ordo which had 9 grades (not Degrees) and was an school of Rosicrucian Adepts. Just for the record.

  2. Dear Frater,
Likewise, my association with AMORC encompasses over 46 years. We do not disagree on any of the particulars in your blog, but are simply looking from different perspectives at the same edifice.
HSL made a conscious decision to bring the Arcane Teachings to the public early in the formation of AMORC. His background was in the use of advertising and public relations to promote sales. At the turn of the century this was a field that was still in its infancy. He combined this with his abilities as a commercial artist and the humble beginnings of AMORC began to take shape. This very American promotional campaign was deemed profane by the European sponsers and French Rosicrucians.
He knew however that the teachings had a great potential to improve the lives of many people regardless of their level of attainment or proficiency. The methods of transmission of these teachings had not changed for at least 4000 years, namely from Master to disciple, and with an arduous training regime that would separate out only the most fit and promising candidates. This is still the mode of transmission in every authentic esoteric school that operates at the level of high initiates receiving occult instruction. This was always referred to as "taking the Path by violence." It was Atlantean in form and function, and Egypt received the discipline as an inheritence. AMORC was never intended to instruct its students with such rigor. European schools, had by the time of Bacon, gone underground to protect themselves from the Inquisition of the Church. Here we see the first examples of the need to tile the Lodge and other such Masonic rites. The methods of instruction by necessity became clandestine and formalized to protect the membership. Very little of AMORC temple work is unique. As it is common for many of us to be both Masons and Rosicrucians, you can be assured that traditionally it is hard to separate the hen from the egg, as it is to say who came first the square and compass or the rose and cross.
Suffice to say, AMORC has had to undergo some very significant changes to its content, social awareness, and scientific relevancy. I fondly remember a prophetic assertion in an early AMORC publication that man or machine would never travel to the planets due to a "ring pass not" which created an impenetrable barrier due to the difference in frequencies. Obviously, we had to throw that one out with the trash.
Still, all in all, AMORC has managed to remain circumspect and conservative in its declarations about futuristic events and earth changes.
What AMORC has done (until recently) is keep a classical romanticism and mystical approach to the teachings, thereby retaining the Egyptian and European roots which have flowered into the finest example of a modern mystery school - the Eleusisian Mysteries and Rites of Dionysus come to mind as well. The deeper mysteries must be protected but that is another topic for further discussion.

    1. Frater Obiron,

You have done a magnificent overview above. I just like to add that may be as a result of historical circumstances during the AMORC creation and its early developments the Order was lead to a very restrictive view on changes. I feel that many times when suggesting innovations to my Grand Lodge. And a bit surprised when years later my ideas were adopted and put in use.

The same are happening now. My ideas expressed in this blog may seems a bit heretical now, but I am sure they will fructify in the future. They are seeds for deep reflection and consideration, as they call for changes in the Order infra-structure and direction; but they are based on inner insights lead to the betterment of the Rosicrucian Tradition and their students, us.

  4. Thank you Carlos Mills and Obiron for this text and discussion; it's inspiring. I don't mean to intrude but you may be interested in my thoughts. I know little of the Rosicrucians, though I met a synchronous Californian Imperator this summer. I am grateful for all the work people have done over the millennia to keep the deeper spiritual aspects of our reality known, though the misogyny has kept it unbalanced. It helps me stay sane to know there are those who strive for a greater peace. I have been blessed since infancy with astral travel, deeper contacts and explorations which I've sought to make sense of since. I would say that higher education, and probably the perversions of life, for me, has lowered my consciousness to the point where the veil is thick and near impenetrable. In hindsight, great Masters have come to me, but I have focused less on them as approachable, and more on their lessons of the greater universe and life. Though Thoth started me on my esoteric explorations at 10, I'm sad to say I rejected his brother Ra for two reasons: prior to Egypt he was historically portrayed as a warmonger and, I have an aversion to (or fear of) inflating my ego by becoming a groupy. What I struggle with, is how to apply these teachings, practically, to essentially create heaven on earth. We have experienced it before on this and other planets. Is working in the shadows - whether by ritual or guided inspiration - enough? A college format is more accepted during these feminine-phobic days, as a more credible and logical pursuit of knowledge; gnosis (christos, nirvana, satori) happens incidentally through exposure to content, systems and personalities. Even so, if an AMORC college is created, the myopic materialistic view that has been cultivated among humanity has created a veil that makes it near impossible for people to accept and apply wisdom, even to their own lives, let alone societal change. Like thousands I'm sure, trying to have an impact is like trying to thread that buried needle from outside the haystack. We are a band of "crazies" and secrecy has not served us well. Occasional connection with greater beings and one-ness is not enough. I was told a decade ago the Ascended Masters have returned to earth and walk among us (had to find out what that meant). Is their presence enough? The urgency to transform on a much greater scale is upon us. How many will expose themselves and their livelihoods to the world, to inspire greater works, to put their money, or efforts towards the transformation? Humanity is like that seed...ripe for transformation yet kept on a shelf instead of being planted, watered and fertilized. Thank you again for your efforts as Roscicrucians to balance the downward influences with upward influences. Though miniscule, there is hope for humanity.

  6. "Anonimous", thanks to your comments I was re-reading Obiron comments and something new striked my attention. It was related to the paragraph: "The methods of transmission of these teachings had not changed for at least 4000 years, namely from Master to disciple, and with an arduous training regime that would separate out only the most fit and promising candidates. This is still the mode of transmission in every authentic esoteric school that operates at the level of high initiates receiving occult instruction."

I may disagree with that... First of all, what we know about the history of the Rosicrucian Tradition before 1600's? Only what was told us by the Fama, nothing else. Our historical records are extremely vague about our remote past, in particular about the Egyptian civilization. Translation difficulties as a result of the egyptian language is dead and we do not have context to interpret the hieroglyphics and in particular if related to such subtle as the metaphysical concepts. What we have left are comments by the Greeks and poems and excerpts from wall inscriptions highly damaged by the rigor of the time. Extending the Rosicrucian history by 4000 years was a concept developed by HSL to give AMORC credibility and tradition at the time. The only think that is really related to that time the Ancient Rites of Memphis and Misraim from which HSL based AMORC's rituals.

Considering the traditional methods of initiatic transmissions, even HSL put them aside and choose a different reference point. As I had pointed out, the current AMORC initiations are not initiatic transmissions in a traditional sense, but an introduction into the mysteries of the grade to follow.

I also like to comment on the reference of a "prophetic assertion" about some cosmological events/phenomenon. From my point of view, apart from current experiences with Remote Viewing, the result of a mystical contact with the Inner Planes does not delivery "scientific" truths. Only knowledge and wisdom about the inner planes themselves and its relation with the human life. Anything beyond that cannot be considered the work of an Adept.

  7. Very interesting discourse. Aside mystical experiences being personal it follows that to the uninitiated all falls within the realm of speculation. The AMORC presents its studies in graded courses each with its lessons, experiments, passwords and signs. There is no guarantee that the student will experience the results expected from each lesson or experiment unless such are related to scientific processes that are clear and definite. The Mystical approach which borders on the sublime is a process that will find physical expression a handicap in many instances unless such expression is made possible through a process that must establish a link to a material thing or place. Mystical contact with 'Higher' beings remains a personal experience and there is no general path to such attainment (if you call it so). In my view, each individual will work out a personal path to greater mystical and spiritual unfoldment. The AMORC lesson might provide a guide towards the search for illumination but illumination and its realization is for each individual to experience alone. With regards to your definition of the egregore, can the egregore enlarge or diminish and what can cause it? Since it is defined as a focal point of the 'Hierarchy' or Adepts of the Order, how does it relate to the individual members in connection with their mystical development and advancement? The present lessons of the monograph appear to be watered down and tends towards an academic approach to mystical issues. I cannot say for sure how others might view it but that is my opinion." Considering the traditional methods of initiatic transmissions, even HSL put them aside and choose a different reference point. As I had pointed out, the current AMORC initiations are not initiatic transmissions in a traditional sense, but an introduction into the mysteries of the grade to follow." I think what is inferred here is that these initiations are but windows or a doorway to what is lies beyond, that they of themselves are not the mysteries. The initiations of themselves do not confer any powers or knowledge to the initiate per say but rather introduces the initiate to another level of studies for contemplation.

    1. Dear Frater Omani, I am addressing your questions in 2 parts.
      Part1:
      [Omani] Very interesting discourse.
[Carlos] I thank you for your comments and added my pun comments to your questions. Please let me know how it goes. PP in LVX.

[Omani] Aside mystical experiences being personal it follows that to the uninitiated all falls within the realm of speculation.
[Carlos] I totally agree with that.

[Omani] The AMORC presents its studies in graded courses each with its lessons, experiments, passwords and signs. There is no guarantee that the student will experience the results expected from each lesson or experiment unless such are related to scientific processes that are clear and definite.
[Carlos] Considering that I am student and practitioner of the R+C Tradition, in particular AMORC, for more than 40 years, gathering experience from that and other Rosicrucian schools, I can say that the above statement is not entirely accurate. In my opinion, if the student is sincere in their pursuit and the school is passing the Ancient Teachings given by the Masters of Wisdom the results are expected.

[Omani] The Mystical approach which borders on the sublime is a process that will find physical expression a handicap in many instances unless such expression is made possible through a process that must establish a link to a material thing or place.
[Carlos] At this stage we need to review our concepts of Mystical and Magical schools/teachings. The Mystical Path is supposed to be "passive" in opposition to the Magical Path which is supposedly "active". However, what we observe is that they are combined in most of the esoteric schools. The Mystic open themselves to the God/Source's Will when by the other hand the Mage via contacting their Division Self promote ways to realize the Divine Plan. Nevertheless, both become aware that the Cosmic Oneness of the Conscience manifest itself as pure energy and that is up to the consciousness to interpret and create the sensory perceptions of the Actuality. With such a vision in mind, the physical is not a handicap but only one way to understand the Actual energy flow in the Cosmos and us such must be understood.

    2. Part 2:
[Omani] Mystical contact with 'Higher' beings remains a personal experience and there is no general path to such attainment (if you call it so). In my view, each individual will work out a personal path to greater mystical and spiritual unfoldment. The AMORC lessons might provide a guide towards the search for illumination but illumination and its realization is for each individual to experience alone.
[Carlos] It seems that the RC Tradition delivers particular and successful ways to reach the Higher Planes / Higher Beings. For example, at the RRetRC (Golden Dawn) the Adepts perform specific rituals to invoke Elemental, Planetary or Zodiacal intelligences for guidance in their spiritual development. According to several blogs from renowned Adepts they successfully achieved the expected results. *Search for blogs on this subject.
[Omani] With regards to your definition of the egregore:
[Omani] Can the egregore enlarge or diminish and what can cause it?
[Carlos] According to my studies the size of the Egregore is not what counts, since it cannot be physically determined. However, the power of the Egregore is determined by:
      (a) The number of people that are contributing to the maintenance of it;
      (b) The period of time during which the Egregore is/was active.
      (c) Ancient Egregore which may be dormant can be reactivated with proper rituals.
[Omani] Since it (the Egregore?) is defined as a focal point of the 'Hierarchy' or Adepts of the Order, how does it relate to the individual members in connection with their mystical development and advancement?
[Carlos] Supposing that you are talking about how to relate the AMORC Egregore and the work of the EH/Adepts, considering the way AMORC describes it, we can say that that Egregore is created and maintained by the AMORC officers and the active members worldwide. The purpose of such Egregore is to allow the sharing of inspirational and mystical insights between all AMORC participants.

    3. Part 3: (I actually needed more one)
[Omani] The present lessons of the monographs appear to be watered down and tends towards an academic approach to mystical issues. I cannot say for sure how others might view it but that is my opinion.
[Carlos] In my point of view, AMORC (HSL) from the beginning decided that the full known corpus of the Rosicrucian Tradition was too heavy for the American society of the 1900's and planned to release something more fashionable according to the current American culture. For instance, giving emphasis to psychic development and contact with the Theosophical Masters instead of using Ritual Magic and Alchemy (as done by the German predecessors). That kind of approach started to change with RML which decided to focus on the experimental approach, much like the scientific way of doing things. The current approach of our Imperator is not yet clear to us. Only time will tell...
[Omani]"Considering the traditional methods of initiatic transmissions, even HSL put them aside and choose a different reference point. As I had pointed out, the current AMORC initiations are not initiatic transmissions in a traditional sense, but an introduction into the mysteries of the grade to follow."
[Carlos] Such approach became clear only if you can compare the AMORC Initiations (lodge or Templar) against other Rosicrucians Initiations provided by other organizations. For instance, in other Rosicrucian schools or orders, the ritualistic officers are required to be accepted into the Adept grades before perform such rituals initiating lower rank members. They must have the knowledge and practice/experience of what is about to pass to the initiates. According to my knowledge, AMORC only creates a Ritualistic Team from volunteering members not considering their background or experience on the subject matter of the initiation to be performed - and just "trained" the team for the event.
[Omani] I think what is inferred here is that these initiations are but windows or a doorway to what is lies beyond, that they of themselves are not the mysteries. The initiations of themselves do not confer any powers or knowledge to the initiate per say but rather introduces the initiate to another level of studies for contemplation.
[Carlos] According to the Rosicrucian Tradition, the Initiation must create a strong contact with the school's Egregore allowing the candidates to experience by themselves the mysteries to be developed into the grade.
